“once upon a time...”
Reviewed 28 August 2014

In preparing for our daughter's August 2013 wedding, held in nearby Lake in the Hills, we stumbled across the Victorian Rose garden B&B... and what a fortunate stumble that was! Initially we were drawn to the location because of its proximity to the wedding venue, but Sherry and her home offered so much more! My husband & I stayed here the night before the wedding with my mom, our daughter and seven members of her bridal party. Sherry was attentive to every detail and her home was such a charming backdrop to the festivities! The home is spacious and the accommodations are plentiful. Sherry's warmth and enthusiasm were so contagious... all the girls were bubbling! We enjoyed our night chatting excitedly about "the big day". It was so nice to have everyone (of the girls) under one roof! On Saturday morning, we gathered for a delicious breakfast and blessing. We were so touched by Sherry & Caroline's thoughtfulness and attention to detail. After breakfast, the girls prepared for the wedding and the excitement was palpable as friends and family and flowers arrived. Sherry was so very gracious! Our photographers were able to capture some amazing shots that showcased Sherry's home's charm. After a few photos, we left for the ceremony and reception. When we returned that night, (my husband & I, our two other children, and my mom), Sherry sat up with us as we excitedly shared the events of the day. The next morning, we relaxed in her comfortable home and garden and enjoyed another delicious, bountiful, beautifully prepared breakfast. Sherry, I am so grateful for your hospitality... you took care of everything... and beyond! Thank you for being part of the beginning of our happily ever after...

The Victorian Rose Garden is only a handful of blocks away from home but that hasn't stopped us from staying there if we just want a few days "away" (but not far away). It's a great B&B - the rooms are cozy and comfortable, the breakfasts are delicious and Sherry and the staff are the perfect hosts. I work out of my home just like my staff works out of theirs only scattered across the country. At training session time, they stay at the VRG and Sherry's dining table converts into a conference room complete with Wi-Fi. The crew loved it! Within walking distance are restaurants, parks, a bike trail, the Fox River (great for fishing or bird photography - even Bald Eagles in the winter). A short drive away is enough shopping to keep anyone happy, the Illinois Railway Museum, Santa's Village, a commuter train station for a trip into Chicago and plenty more.

We hit a home run by choosing this wonderful B&B. This older, huge home, well suited for a B&B, is located at the edge of the old downtown area...within easy walking distance to three great restaurants. The room we stayed in, the Presidential Suite, is large...nicely decorated with lots of antique furniture. Comfortable king mattress, great pillows and accessories. A claw tub and separate shower. All rooms are located on the second level of this historic home. The main floor has several rooms, dens and decks for guest use. Plenty of off-street parking at the back of the home. Excellent breakfast. An engaging owner who spends time with her guests...she has great knowledge of the history of the area.

Highly recommend this B&B for business or vacation stays.

We recently stayed at the Victorian Rose Garden. After riding on the Fox River Trail for 35 miles, Sherry and Caroline greeted us as if we were relatives coming to stay for the night. Upon entering the house, we smelled wonderful chocolate cookies which they were prepared for us. She led us up to the Presidential suite. My legs hurting from the aggressive ride, I opted to soak in the wonderful bathtub. At that point, I realized that this will be a special experience. She thought everything to make her guest feel as if they were home. Bath salts, cushion for my head, body lotions, sprays, hair dryer, curling iron, all the amenities of home which I could not bring on my bike. The refrigerator in the room was stocked with cold water and soda. The room was beautifully decorated which added to the ambiance of her inn.
We enjoyed the conversation with both Caroline and Sherry. They were polite, interesting, professional and yet demonstrated avery caring attitude for the road weary travelers. They recommended a number of places to eat within walking distance from the lovely inn.
Upon our return, they politely inquired about our experience at dinner.
Upon waking up in the morning, I looked outside our door and they placed a tray with coffee, and sweet treats. This was a delightful bonus which is very rare to find. We really appreciated this effort.
Breakfast was served at 8:30. Fruit, juice and ginger pancakes with a lemon sauce was perfect. When we were ready to head out on the trails, Jenny provided us with coffee cake and cookies for our ride back.
I look forward to staying at her inn in the future. It was a most delightful experience.

Room Tip: The President suite was roomy. Bath tub and shower. Separate room with toilet and bidet.

It is a rare opportunity when I get to stay at a B&B when on business. This worked out well since it was near work and I saved time by not having to drive to dinner. The location in Algonquin is great since there are a number of very nice dinning options within walking distance of the B&B. Its a nice walk too. Down sidewalks in a classic American town.

Victorian Rose Garden Inn Bed and Breakfast is like home away from home. Sherry and Caroline provide wonderful breakfast and afternoon tea in addition to comfortable rooms. We also enjoyed conversations together, finding we have much in common through life experiences. They are very friendly. The restaurants and shops are a short walk away on main street Algonquin. Our favorite restaurants were Martini on Main for a nice meal and Hot Dogs (had gyros since I don't like hot dogs) for a casual meal, enjoying life with townsfolk. I enjoy running and bicycling and can highly recommend this place for those reasons too since the Prairie and Fox River trail are only a block away. Woodhouse Spa, which is only a block away also, gives good lava stone massages and pedicures.
