Owner description: Pokagon is an Indiana State Park located in Angola, Indiana, on the shores of Lake James. Pokagon has both electric and non-electric campsites, as well as a youth tent area and group camp. There a two swiming beaches at Pokagon along with miles of hiking trails, a bike trail, a Nature Center open daily and the Potawatomi Inn and Conference Center. In the winter, Pokagon is home to a refrigerated toboggan run. Because of it is refrigerated, it does not need snow to go and is open from the day after Thanksgiving until the last weekend in February.

I went with my family to Pokagon as a kid and now I am enjoying taking my own daughter and staying at the inn. It's the perfect little getaway that is not to far from where we live and we visit often. There is a lot to do, especially in the summer, but we have visited during all for seasons. This trip we went kayaking, swimming in the lake and the pool, rented bikes, visited the nature center, and sat around the camp fire and roasted marshmallows (and we were there for less than 24 hours!). The decor is not fancy (there are quite a few taxidermied animals around) and the pool area could be updated but the inn is clean and the staff welcoming. We always spend the majority of the time outdoors so the style of the room is not a big deal to us anyway. The prices are reasonable, especially during the off season where sometimes in the winter you can even get a two night stay for the price of one.

I loved this day getaway. Kayaking was awesome. Hiking was fun and just the right distance. I think they need to rework their maps which felt inaccurate. Great beach area. I am coming again. Lunch was very tasty and nice environment in the hotel.

Beautiful landscaping and private beach! Early in the morning, you can rent a boat and look at all of the unique homes around the lake. You will see tiny homes and celebrity mansions.

Pokagon is one of the nicest state parks. It has 9 walking trails varying in the difficulty. It also has the nicest staff in the Nature Center and through out the park. If you are not able to stay at the park, it least spend the day. No matter what time of the year you will find all kinds of things to do.
