“Excellent Mexican-American Fare”
Reviewed 24 October 2013

A little gem tucked away near the I-35/First St. exit in Ankeny. I have found over the years that the food is well made and tasty, regardless of what dish you choose. The service is always quick and friendly with an 'owned by family' kind of atmosphere. The drink s are excellent as well, in particular the Cadillac Margarita.

The are always accommodating to families or larger groups and gladly arrange to share and entrée with your companion if you're eating lighter.

Homemade salsa and chips of course.

eat here often and have never had a bad meal, staff is overly friendly and service is fast. Food is very good and they have a big selection. The margaritas are especially good with fresh chips and salsa

“Mexican From A Can..”
Reviewed 13 September 2013 via mobile

It's no wonder this place gets good reviews, the food tastes like mexican you can buy off the shelf at the grocery store..

We started with margaritas, which were way sweet and taste like bottled margarita mix. The chip were way greasy, and the salsa remined canned salsa, no flavor.

My chimichanga were filled bland meat and way too much wrapper. The refried beans and rice were also bland with metalic can taste.

My wife's shrimp dinner was way overcooked and also tasteless.

Anyone who thinks the food here tastes authenic is totally clueless.

There is much better places in Des Moines but clearly not in Ankeny, as this place was voted Best In Ankeny !!

Even the great service here does nothing for pitiful food that is served.

“Great Place to eat”
Reviewed 8 May 2013

After a long drive, it was good to see this Restaurant close to the hotel. The food was great! Really enjoyed the meal. The place was full of local people which tells me that the food must be always good. It was a nice place to relax and enjoy a good meal.

“Friendly atmosphere but the food was a mixed bag”
Reviewed 31 March 2013

Six of us headed to Cazador in hopes of finding a new favorite Mexican place. Unfortunately, despite the pleasant ambience and friendly, high-quality service, we experienced more misses than hits. The high point was a mole with tender chicken, ample vegetables and a mild, tasty sauce. The low point was a rolled beef chalupa with a thin later of bland filling surrounded by a too thick wrap of tortilla. Chalupas are usually fried; maybe this one was, but it was not crispy and seemed to be baked. The tostada and quesadillas also received pans from those who ordered them. On the higher note, the chicken fajitas were a hit, as was the spicy salsa and chips amuse-bouche (that's French for "free appetizer."). For the relatively high prices, we just didn't feel this place made the grade.
