Fillenwarth is a wonderful family resort. So many activities for the kids to do. Free boat rides, crafts, getting acquainted party! We go back every summer! Cabins are recently updated. Quick walk to emporium and Arnold's park. Great time

We traveled to Okoboji for a family wedding, deciding to make it a family vacation. With four siblings families and extended family in tow. We were able to get accommodations close to the proximity of what we were there for, plus a bonus of other activities. Condo located on the water, great location, and amenities. Concert in the park giving us great seats from our deck. Daily FREE activities gave entertainment for all ages young adults to grandparents. Staff was very accommodating and courteous.

Room Tip: Condo's were great for a family of six. Short walk to activities, that the resort put on, but a...

Located right on the lake, it's just what you want for a budget summer vacation. Paddles boats, pools, games and barbecues.

You can self-cater - kitchen and big BBQ out on deck - or dine out at the many restaurants.

My cabin had one bedroom and, bizarrely, another double bed in the living room. I think the coach also folded out, so as long as you don't mind being cozy, you can get a few people in there.

Standard bathroom, with shower in bath.

This is the kind of place where spend most of your time out of the room doing things.

We stayed here for 1 night in July with my in-laws and brother-in-law. My brother-in-law worked this summer at Camp Foster nearby so we just needed a place for the 1 night he had off between camper sessions.

Since my father-in-law booked the room I can't speak for how much he paid or what kind of value it was. I can say that the room was not that clean and the decor was VERY dated. The bathroom is set up so the tub/shower is in one room, the vanity/sink area is out in the open, and the toilet is in another separate room that is so small even a normal-sized person struggles to get in there and close the door in order to actually use the toilet. The room, helpfully, came with a fly swatter and bug spray. This likely explained why there were fly/mosquito carcasses all over the place - left on the wall where they had been swatted to death and never cleaned up by anyone.

We did appreciate the deck - it had a nice view of Lake Okoboji as well as a grill for our use. Our suite had a kitchenette which my mother-in-law utilized to make us a nice dinner together.

We also appreciated that the resort is pet-friendly, and that they offered several free activities during the day. We tried out the sailboat ride and the sunset cruise - both were just okay. The sailboat ride was a bit crowded (maybe if we were staying more than 1 night we would have waited and gone when there weren't so many other people also wanting to go) and the sunset cruise, which included free drinks, included very very watered-down mixed drinks.

The beds were comfortable and the staff members we encountered were friendly. The best part of our stay was that the local marina did a fireworks show that night and we got to sit on the resort dock and watch the fireworks go off over the lake.

We struggled to write this review of Fillenworth. My wife and boys 12 and 15 thoroughly enjoyed ourselves and took advantage of the included water skiing, manager's reception (live band and free drinks), and several cruises. The people working there are a model of customer service and were uniformly friendly, informative, and enthusiastic.
Why we didn't rate this five stars was the price. Yes, all the activities are included, and if you take full advantage of everything offered you'll get your money's worth. However, the rooms and other infrastructure, though nicely redecorated, were aging and didn't seem worth the price. Also, there was no fitness center.
If you do go, we have no doubt you'll have a wonderful, relaxing time. Our only question is whether you're fully getting value for the price.

Room Tip: The South Beach units are closest to Arnold's Park, just a very short walk away.

Our family has vacationed at Fillenwarth Beach for most of the past 25 years. It is a very laid back, comfortable place to enjoy family, do nothing, or be active all day.

What it is: comfortable, (somewhat rustic) accomodations; friendly helpful staff; lots of activities offered throughout the day; beautiful lake; opportunities to spend lots of time on the water without bringing a boat. The Monday night Get Acquainted Party and the daily cocktail cruises are particularly enjoyable.

What it is not: an upscale resort with granite and stainless steel; staff expecting tips for every service.

Our family believes that if you don't have fun at Fillenwarth Beach, it is your own doing.

My wife is a native of the area and we chose Fillenwarth's because of reputation and location. We stay here on our annual trip back home to the lakes area. We never leave disappointed.

The resort: Great activities to keep you busy and get you out on the lake. They have a great sundeck to get your tan and you and the kids a dip in the lake. Many docks to give you an opportunity to get out and catch a fish. Many kinds of boat tours to get you out on the lake. We've been on the home tour cruise, the Sun Runner cruise, and out in the paddle boats. Our next trip back we are looking to go on the history cruise. Lots of other activities available that are outlined on the website.

The rooms: We stayed in the Lakefront Chateaus. We had 5 and fit very comfortably. Our room had a sun deck where we could eat dinner and sip on beverages as the sun went down. The room had a kitchenette and a grill that allowed us to cook a meals. We felt like we were in our own little lakefront cabin. It was great.

The staff: The staff took care of our every need. They made sure we had everything we needed in our room. They taught my oldest son to waterski and were very patient with my youngest when he tried. They also gave my oldest son tips what bait to use when he went fishing. Outstanding group. Very impressed with their people.

The location: Fillenwarth's is located a block or two from the Central Emporium. Which is great for shopping and dining. Be sure to grab some lunch and a beverage at the Gardens in the emporium. Also within walking distance to Arnolds Park and the restaurants and bars on Broadway.

All in all I would highly recommend this place to any family or friends that are travelling to the area. It has all the elements for a great stay in the Iowa Great Lakes.
