The museum is located close to the botanic garden "Jardin d'essai" that you can overlook from the museum itself. it's also very close to the Sofitel Algiers.
The collection is very rich with pieces of Issiakhem, Racim, Dinet Delacroix, Degas, ...
Very unfortunately, the museum does not offer guide services.
I consider it to be the most interesting museum in Algiers by far.

The "Beaux Arts" museum is not what one would expect when they think of Algeria. Housed in a beautiful building which overlooks wonderful gardens, the Beaux Arts looks more like it could be The Barnes Foundation in Philadelphia; impressionist paintings grouped in what seems like an old mansion, juxtaposed with decorative arts and some contemporary Algerian painters. A treat!

Below the hill of the Martyrs Monument stands the Museum of Fine Arts in Algiers. Having visited a number of times, this museum goes from strength to strength. When I first arrived they had I think 1-2 Degas sculptures amongst others just sitting on a plinth, no glass surrounding it, just there to touch if you felt inclined (although the gentleman who followed us around may not have been impressed). Those were the more un-professional days that I remember. Now the museum has well displayed and cased sculptures, many varied paintings by European masters and some Algerian I presume all left when the French were sent packing in the 60's. For 20 DZD (Euro 0.20) entrance, you could not hope for a better display of art as varied as this on display anywhere in the world. Don't forget to take in the balcony view out to the sea looking down the fountained boulevard of the botanical gardens below.
