A few places to visit in Algiers. The structure might not be aesthetically beautiful but the massive proportions of the architecture are sure to impress. It is visible form any where in the city and also has the best views from there. The best way to reach the monument is by taxi. For more information visit alextravelblog.com

“Historical Memorial of Martyrs”

This site is well known, and considered as a symbol of Algiers (The modern capital).
You can see Algiers via this Memorial, and dominate all the Gulf Algiers.

“One of the few Algiers attractions.”

Its a huge monument. The actual name if you need to take a taxi is "Maqam Al Shaheed". Its shocking the first time you see it. Specially if you come from the parking site stairs. The base of the monument is closed and the guards will make you know about it. The view point to see the city its has also limited access. So if you want to see the city you need to cross the street or go to the Cable Car connecting El Madania with the city.

The two museums around are okay but don't expected to see a lot of things. Most of the things are pictures and war relics. The walk to the cable car is not the safest but still okay if you are in a group or couples. Is very easy to reach. You just follow the palm tree line till the bridge and the you go right. The view of the city from the Cable Car station is outstanding.

“Socialist architecture but great view!”
2 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 15 February 2013

It was little hard to decide how to rate this site. It's a horrible concreat monstrosity (think all the sick communist monuments you have seen being torn down on national news during end of cold war). the site has a heavy military presence and you are not allowed to enter the space between the three "legs". The soldier shout at me like mad the second I set a foot on the edge. There is a very bias museum in the foot of the tower - save you money, it wouldn't be worth it even for free! BUT: there are is a 360 degrees view from this place (the bay, the city), small quiet park next to it and a cafe for some quality people watching. There is a cable car connecting the monument with Jardin d'Essai so definitely go for it. Just remember: you are going for the view, not for the monument itself...

enjoyed exploring this monument,it is called Maqam al Shaheed. definetly go during the day and visit the museum below with lots of artifacts from the war. At night, many families sit around and relax.
