Even if it is closed for Renovation, but you can have a great vue from outside. A unique architecture. Unfortunatly, its location is quite in a popular market.

The Ketchaoua Mosque is closed for renovations when I visited in April 2014. No indication as to when it will reopen. It was fenced in and had scaffolding around it.

I have travelled throughout the Muslim world but never seen a mosque like this. It's history and architecture is quite unique and quite stunning. Definitely worth seeing, be careful though, the local area is a foreboding.

The mosque is beautiful, but to fully appreciate it,you must know it's story!
It was built in 1794 by the Dey Baba Hassan, it later served the Catholic faith and was transformed into a cathedral, before being recovered by the Muslim religion at the independence.
This building is a surprising mixture of Roman-Byzantine styles and Turkish-Arab mosque Ketchaoua was the center of a lively area between the citadel and the harbor of Algiers.
It has Witnessed the history of Algiers, and she tells us about the brothers Barbarossa, the Ottoman deys, then the colonial period devoted to Christian worship in 1832, and finally the return to Islam after the independence of Algeria in 1962.
