All the Staff are amazing, cannot do enough for you...from reception, domestic, pool, entertainment to restaurant...best ever!
One of the cleanest hotel we've ever stayed in.
Food - excellent, varied and plentiful.
Specialist restaurants are well worth a visit - food is superb with added advantage of being served at your table in a quieter atmosphere.
Evenings are relaxed with entertainment available if you want it...some In-house and some professional.
Cannot fault and will definitely return...this hotel is perfect for a week of rest, relaxation and being looked after.

I don't do long winded reviews...you just need to know you get exceptionally more value for money than you pay for...worth every penny and then some!

We found this gem in January 2013. As the winter became damper and grey I booked a trip and have just returned. We had almost the same room, south facing and quiet. Sheltered from the on shore breeze. We lazed by the pool (heated) most days, and our skins soaked in the warmth and turned golden. The drinks trolley came round at regular intervals so several cocktails were sampled, Mojito being the most refreshing, Merengue also slipped down. The men enjoyed the G&T. The buffet restaurants offered a fantastic selection of traditional Morrocan food, grilled meat and fish, Italian cuisine and a wonderful selection of fresh salad, fruit, cheese, seafood. Desserts were tempting, but petite..so the waistline stayed trim. Full English breakfast, pancakes, croissants and everyone was happy, even Prosecco! The wines served with lunch and dinner slipped down, as did the beer, Irish Coffee and Port taken in the comfortable bar area. This time we watched the entertainment, lively and contemporary, belly dancing meets break dance. The staff are attentive and plentiful. The rooms are spacious and comfortable. Despite the hotel being almost at capacity there were plenty of sun beds and spaces to relax. We took a taxi to the Kasbah to get the views of Agadir and were dropped off in the marina. A slow stroll back to the hotel completed the morning; an afternoon trip to the Souk was also interesting (a thousand stalls allegedly)
prices in the parade of shops opposite the hotel were competitive. We will certainly return, possibly in September. We were welcomed with bubbly to commemorate our Silver Wedding. We travelled with Thomson and the flights and transfer were first class. Our much travelled sister and husband who joined us on the trip have put this hotel in their top ten!

Room Tip: Ask for south facing preferably 3rd floor. Sit in the same area in the restaurants and develop a rel...

OK, so you’ve read these rave views and you’ve made the sensible (and not too difficult) decision to spend a week or two here. Rather than repeating these raves, I thought it would be more useful to give you some tips, based on our experience of a fortnight here in January/February. I hope you find this helpful.

ACCOMMODATION

If you go for Thomson’s ‘pool view’ upgrade, you may well find (as we did) that you get a double upgrade to a large, superior pool-view room. Ours was really a junior suite, with a large corner balcony facing two ways, with views of the pool, sea and the Kasbah (castle) on the hill. It had a seating area with sofa, table and chairs, dressing room and a bath as well as shower. In other words, the supplement was money well spent.

The hotel is U-shaped so half the rooms face North and half South. So if you want a balcony in the sun, you should email the hotel direct and request one. However, they might promise one and not deliver. On arrival, we were told a South-facing room would be available in two days (who wants to re-pack after two days?). So we sat in the shade instead. The irony is that, in high season, with temperatures in the 40’s, these shaded balconies will be at a premium!

WHEN TO GO

This is a perfect winter sun destination. The ambient temperature is cool, but the sun can be deceptively hot. Evenings are chilly, so bring a sweater, especially if you want to eat outside. Only those who enjoy scorching temperatures should go in summer – and of course it’s more expensive.

EATING

The hotel’s occupancy rates are around 90%, so the main restaurants get very busy at peak periods (9 pm, 1 pm and 8 pm). There is no problem getting a table, but the wine service can be erratic. No criticism of the staff, who are excellent, but they are run off their feet. So our advice would be to avoid these peaks. If you go late you will not find that the best dishes have run out (as is often the case elsewhere). We don’t agree with those who say the food is repetitive. You could spend two weeks here without eating the same dish twice. Of course, if you prefer a diet of pizza and burgers, you could get bored – but that’s your problem. So our tip is – be adventurous. The Moroccan dishes are always delicious, and the sheer variety of fresh fish on offer is amazing.

Go to the two bookable restaurants at least once. You don’t need to book far ahead. There are two sittings (7 and 9 pm). The menus never change and the choice is limited, but the wine is better, the atmosphere peaceful and the service is excellent.

DRINKING

The wines on offer are OK, but go for the rosé rather than the white. Cava at breakfast time is a real luxury – and you can make Buck’s Fizz with the excellent fresh orange juice. In the bars, the hotel’s cocktails are pretty feeble, and would contravene our Trade Descriptions Act. Go, instead, for the proprietary brands – e.g. Bombay Gin. Jack Daniels, Campari etc. The local beer is fine.

LOUNGING

There is no shortage of places to lie in the sun. Although the early-morning towel routine is outlawed, it still happens (and it’s not just the Germans!). Our advice is – relax, don’t join the race! Why is it so important to be lying by the pool? Some of the best areas are away from the pool in sunken sun-traps under palm trees, with fountains and huge, comfy cushions.

ENTERTAINMENT PROGRAMME

(Sorry, I refuse to use that ludicrous word “Animation”). This, of course is a matter of taste. All we can say is that, if you like this kind of thing, this is the kind of thing you will like. For those who don’t, we recommend you bring along your portable DVD player and a pile of your favourite movies.

SPA

The Spa is not run by the Rui Hotel Group. You can tell, because the reception girls are sullen, unhelpful and bored. Fortunately things improve after that. The place is huge and palatial (the walk to the reception desk takes 30 seconds), and the other staff are friendly and quite skilled. Our tip is to start with the special offer – 29 Euros for Hammam, Body Wrap and 20-minute massage – and see if you like it. All the other treatments are very expensive by local standards. Our advice is that if you like this kind of thing, take a five-minute walk from the hotel to the Agane Spa, where, for a third of the price you can enjoy better treatments (Hammam, body scrub, massage, facials etc) with expert staff. It’s not so palatial, but it’s modern, friendly and immaculately clean.

WHAT TO DO

Activities in Agadir are limited. The walk along the promenade towards the Marina is very pleasant and a visit to the Souk is a ‘must’. Take a red taxi and check that he has a meter and it’s set to zero – or agree a price of no more than 20 dirhams. Thomson offers various excursions, and if you haven’t been to Marrakech, you might try that (though it sounds a long day). If shopping is your thing, there is a Uniprix 15 minutes East of the hotel for those who don’t want to barter. Elsewhere it’s the norm, but it is good-natured. You should aim to settle at 30-40% of the asking price.

TIPPING

The service here is so good that tipping in advance, as a bribe, is unnecessary – and unwanted. You will tip generously at the end of your stay because the staff deserve it.

CURRENCY

The hotel will change Stirling, Euros etc at reasonable rates, though you might get better rates in town if you can be bothered.

Well, after reading that lot, you deserve a holiday! I hope it was helpful and if you have any questions, do contact me.

Room Tip: Ask for a South-facing room in winter

We came to this hotel after being upgraded after a problem where we were previously staying. This has to be the best hotel I have ever been to. The surroundings are fabulous, the staff are brilliant and can't do enough for you. Our split level room with balcony and all amenities was sumptuous and the food was superb with loads of choice-we certainly came back heavier than we went!!!!! Definitely going back and that is something we rarely do. Absolutely brilliant

Room Tip: We were on top floor and were more than happy

We stayed at the Riu Palace for one week as a treat after new year 2nd to 9th of January.
Booked the hotel as familiar with Riu hotel chain and was not disappointed. 5 Star..
We were met by lovely staff on reception, room was ready and waiting for us.
We had a super room on the 3rd floor side sea view, had sun on our balcony all day.
The weather was cool in the morning but was soon very nice and warm up around 11.am.
Of course will be getting better as the months go by.. Very safe a lovely long stroll to be had either left or right on the front promenade all one level nice under foot for older ones.
Lovely private beach to the front of the hotel. We went to Agadir on our first ever holiday together 30 years ago, and decided to return. It was a lovely break very much enjoyed it. I love the way the locals want to bid on the price with you, they really are very nice people, do not be rude to them, only making a living for themselves. We had some fun with the sellers on the prom. Just enjoy and barter with them, they are so friendly. Food was excellent drinks all inclusive too and were very generous with the wine at lunch and dinner, very good wine too.
A fab hotel worth a visit to Agadir enjoy the culture something different. My mum has booked to go in March with a friend for a week, I would recommend a visit.

Room Tip: Third floor side sea view was a good place to be we liked it there

We have just returned after a week break to celebrate my birthday and what a holiday, I cannot fault this hotel from the moment you arrive to the moment you leave. The staff are great from the reception to the gardeners, they always have time for a chat and a smile, anytime of the day.
Where shall I start, the thing closest to my heart, food and drink. Every meal was a delight, there is something for everyone at every meal, cooked lovely and the choices are superb, I especially loved the individual little pastries and biscuits which were available lunch and dinner, I am blaming them for my weight gain, the pastry chef is wonderful!!!! Drinks were all branded and even champers for your breakfast, what a delight, never once had any problem getting served and loved going for my pre dinner cocktail in the lounge area. The rooms are big and spacious with lovely sitting are and balcony, we had a south facing room which caught the sun which was lovely as a bit breezy a couple of days. All in all I would recommend this hotel in a beat, we are actually thinking of going back next year. Lovely lovely lovely.

stayed here for 11 nights arriving 16 jan 2014 reception on arrival was well staffed so no big wait for rooms,on finding our room was really impressed very spacious and a big bed [ although on sleeping on bed did find matress too firm for my wife and i] .Food was good evening and lunch time; the only problem if hotel is full its difficult to find a table but the staff soon clear and reset the table .Have stayed in 3 different hotels in agadir all inc and i love that they serve you your wine and place bottle in wine chiller at your table and if waiter sees your glass empty he soon tops it up.Where things need improving is lunch time dining if weather is not so good you cant sit outside and the dining room cant cope with all the people .Also we found as others we spoke to did not find the evening entertainment very good ,we had a singer in the main bar 4 nights during our stay he was good, but in the theatre area there was a group on who were ok but on each of the 3 times we went in to see them they sang all the same songs people would stay a few minutes then walk out ,the animation team was not much better .We thought there was no atmosphere in bar and foyer seating area it could have done with some music playing in the background .We still found this to be a nice hotel to stay in and the staff are really pleasant we shall come back again.
