“Fantastic hotel and lovely staff”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 27 August 2014

We have just returned from our two weeks holidays in Agadir. I could not find many faults in this hotel. The staff is lovely; nothing is too much for them. The buffet food does feel repetative when eating for two weeks but there is plenty of choices so no issues there either. We were there with our two teenage sons and even they were so happy that we did not have to worry about. The managers Roi and Raphael were always out and about and speaking with the guests. The Thompsons reps Hasan and John were ever so friendly and helpful, specially Hasan was very informative.
Our rooms were on ground floor, at the rear of the hotel so it was very close to the swimming pool/beach. Which was a definitely added bonus since we did not need to have a long walk to go to our room when coming from a swim.
The locals were very nice, As the hotel was situated on the beach, we always used to go for a walk on the promenade in the evenings and just a 'no' and 'thank you' for the street vendors was effective. They never tried to push their lucks or hassled us. We went to local Souk as well and ofcourse had to haggle but this is a common practice in a lot of countries. We also took a trip to Marakkesh and it was worth it but was long and tiring. Marakkesh is a city rich of history and Morroccan architecture - something that we did not find much in Agadir probably due to the recent re-construction after the earthquake of 60's.
Weather was a definite let down (specially the sea mist until later afternoon) but I understand that it was a typical August weather in Agadir.
We would definitely go back to Agadir and stay in the same hotel however not in August.

We spent 2 weeks here for our honeymoon with our 2 year old. It was truly stunning. The food was amazing, each restaurant had something new to offer and were equally spectacular. The pool was clean, modern and great for us to relax in and for us to splash around with our son. The staff were attentive, polite, and there were plenty of staff around at all times. Would recommend to all and will visit again.

Just got back from 2 weeks at the RIU Palace Agadir and have to say it doesn't live up to the hype. Let me say my wife and I have stayed in Riius almost exclusively for the last 15 years and most of them Palace class. The hotel is good but not very good or excellent. This is a new hotel opened a couple of years ago and it's already starting to show signs of wear and tear. The rooms are spacious enough but don't come equpped t as advertised, no optics for instance, which are commonly omitted in most Palace class Riu's as they are 24 hrs all inclusive so why advertise you have them? The furnishings are very basic and storage space is minimal if not in fact lacking. The sliding doors to one of the hanging spaces were constantly coming off! The beds are shockingly firm bordering on damn hard! No iron in the room, this has to be hired as an extra, this is standard room kit in most Palaces.
The bathroom was ok and the shower was very good.
The public rooms are exactly what to expect, large and grand, very, very clean, as are the public washrooms very much RIU standard.
Food is o.k. Lots of it, gets repetitive and not always hot or even very warm. The specialist restaurants we used were the Italian, which was o.k. and Krystal, which is the RIU fine dining experience, was poor to put it mildly.
Staff are on the whole very polite and attentive, there are problems with bar service and bar staff need to be trained in making drinks because not everything needs to be thrown in a glass with ice and lemon. Premium brands are served though and Bacardi and coke is just that.
Entertainment or Animation in RIU speak was ok, usual day time darts, aqua gym etc. The night shows were a mixed bag of the in house team and bought in artists. The visiting or resident artists were generally ok to good and the regular band were very good spoilt only by the Celine Dion wannabe singer who needs to rethink her career path. The animation teams offerings were poor, performed by young men and women with no discernible talent between them, this though is the same in all Riu's.
The weather was poor and it is a shame that tour operators cannot be honest enough to explain to travellers to Agadir that August is always overcast, just ask the people who live there, and the mist or more properly low cloud, which starts the day at sea level, doesn't clear most days until noon or even 4 or 5 o'clock. This of course makes sea swimming unpleasant as it's quite cold and the hotel pool is also quite cool so that must be why they have a heated, heated in August!, indoor pool. Don't travel to the Agadir coast in August if you want wall to wall sunshine. Having been to this RIU our curiosity is sated and I have to say we won't be visiting this RIU Palace again, even in the sunshine.

Room Tip: Avoid rooms close to lifts as these can be noisy at night.

We have just come back from our two week holiday and had a great time.
The hotel was wow and the staff made us feel very welcome. A big thank you to the assistant managers Roi and Rafael who helped me and my daughter, nothing was too much.
The hotel is situated in a great place and we hired bikes on the promenade a couple of times and went for walks during the day and the evening. The food was very tasty and if you needed anything (for food allergies) they would make it or get it.
Loved the riu fit and enjoyed the classes thoroughly also the animation team were a great set of lads.
Our room was facing over the promenade but this was not a bad thing as the rooms are gorgeous with everything that you need and more.
There is a sea mist in the morning but don't let this put you off and don't be fooled by this as you can still burn but this soon burns off and the weather is lovely but comfy.
There are plenty of sun beds so you don't need to rush and get up early in a morning.
We went on the atlas 4x4 trip and the trip to Marrakesh, both are good for seeing history and architecture and a must do if you want to experience Morocco. Marrakesh is not for the faint hearted though as it is a long day but well worth it.
All in all we had a fantastic holiday in a fantastic hotel and fully recommend the Riu for you holiday. I will just say that the only thing the Riu need to look at is the entertainment in the big room on a night, for a big named hotel you expect big acts and this was the only area they need to improve on.
Should you read any negative reviews basically i don't know what more they wanted.

Room Tip: All rooms are of a high standard, we had a room looking out on the promenade not the pool but this w...

We have stayed in many 5 star resort all-inclusive hotels around the world and this hotel was on a par with them in many ways.

People should be aware that if they decide to go for meals or drinks at the busiest times of the day anywhere, they are going to have to wait to get waiters to attend to them or queue in the restaurant for food being cooked. We only experienced this once on our last day, but at other times we got a good service and sometimes pretty special one, even without tipping.

As with other reviewers, we found that if you did tip someone, they tried to go that extra mile for you when they were not busy, which was lovely.

My husband and I were aware of the issues with the mist and fog in July and August after booking a year ago and seeing it on trip adviser, so when this happened on our third day, we were not surprised by it and also knew it was still warm enough to go out and about and then return to your sun lounger later in the morning, just when most people were starting to arrive at the pool.

I can imagine it would be a shock for those that were not aware of it, but being hardy scots it didn't worry us too much, but it was nice to see blue skies appearing early on certain mornings, when looking out.

A 4th floor pool room is a must if you like to sit and relax in the late afternoon sunshine (mainly the left side blocks) as you can see along the bay. Paying that little extra when you book, saves you being disappointed when you arrive.

We found the Moroccan people really nice and friendly when we went out and about and this is probably because we didn't just ignore them, like we observed others doing, especially when leaving the hotel grounds. Just a smile and a no thank you is enough.

They do have a habit of staring at each other and also westerners, but this is just their way and there is nothing sinister in it, unless you happen to be inappropriately dressed, say, wearing a bikini walking along the promenade!

We found that if you smile at their children, that gets the parents and grandparents smiling and grinning back at you and after our first venture outside into what felt like Hogmanay crowds in Edinburgh, we soon relaxed and enjoyed the lovely family atmosphere where nobody bothered us. We even met some ex pat Moroccans from Brussels who wanted to chat to us, but unfortunately our French is not too good.

Even children coming to the beach after school would say bonjour and smile at us, which was lovely and quite unexpected.

Crossing the roads at the crossing points looked hazardous but if you stepped onto the crossing, the drivers were great at slowing down or stopping and when you thanked them they thanked you back. So, not at all like other places I could name.......

All in all, we had a superb time in agadir and the surrounding area and if their were more trips for us to experience, we would definitely return to this hotel and the area.

Stayed here at the end of July with my boyfriend, my parents and my brother and his family – we had a fantastic time! We all had rooms facing the pool on the ground floor and almost had our very own beautiful gardens! We stayed for 10 nights and would definitely recommend this hotel for a big family holiday – mainly because everything we needed was in the hotel and the grounds. We do normally like to travel around the local area but that isn’t great in Agidir, but as it was a family celebration holiday the hotel was fab! Great pool, lovely restaurants, lovely surroundings and very helpful staff. Sometimes the food in the buffets was a bit limited and quite repetitive but still a high standard. The Crystal restaurant was very very good – make sure your make a reservation early as we could only visit twice – both nights were lovely. We were made to feel very special for our family birthdays- cakes etc! Thank you for a memorable family holiday! :)

Room Tip: Definitely get a room facing the pool! :)

Just come back from 10 days in this hotel and I can honestly say I could not fault it. We asked for 2 rooms over looking pool and next door to each other and that's what we got. The rooms were lovely and big and cleaned every day with drinks in fridge which were replaced daily (free) and believe it or not tea and coffee. Plenty of bars which serve branded drinks and food was excellent. Do not panic about sunbeds the poolside ones did go early but the area is big and you
could still get beds at any time of day because the staff would find them for you. In all inclusive
terms this is 5 Star and people who moan about this hotel are just trying to find fault.
We did not go to beach but it is ok ( not the best I have seen though ). This is a resort for relaxing
as there is not much to do in Agadir. The staff at this hotel are the best and friendliest we have met in years. You will not be disappointed.

Room Tip: we were in rooms 2012 and 2014 which are at far end from reception ( brilliant ) for pool.
