“I love cockroaches but this is ridiculous”
Reviewed 18 August 2014

Been here two days. In reception for the fourth time complaining about the cockroaches that appear every time we leave the kids room empty. Staff don't seem to care at all. So far we had about 15 cockroaches. Some are *massive*. Never been anywhere where the staff seem to care less about the customer. Restaurant is mayhem and long line for food... Eaten of rickety plastic chairs. I would most definitely not come back.

We booked half board for 3 nights. Location was great. Rooms were ok. Hygiene was average. Food selection was not what I expected in comparison to other hotels where we have stayed. All soft drinks and water had to be paid for seperately. Not good value for money. Positives are, my teenagers enjoyed the table tennis/ football/ swimming organised. Would not go there again.

My Husband and I spent 2 weeks here and returned last weekend. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Al Mogger. The location is amazing, but it is not for disabled elderly and there are a lot of steps. The staff were great. Although it is not a five star luxurious hotel, neither is the price. We had safe, clean, suitable for our needs accommodation, however if you go on holiday and expect home from home you will be disappointed. My Husband and I are more open minded than that. It is not a British breakfast or dinner etc. however if you are easygoing, open minded with a relaxed attitude and look for the good points you will not be disappointed, or go hungry.

Room Tip: Ask for a room with a pool and sea view together, or if you have children, ground floor by the pool

This is the first review I have ever left, but felt I should regarding this hotel as there have been many negative comments regarding Hotel Al Moggar.
We are your average British family with 2 teenage children that were looking for a cheap week away somewhere different. We settled on Morocco and choose this hotel as it was in our price range. We booked our flight & the hotel through Easyjet and requested 2 adjacent rooms with a sea view, which the hotel provided. It is a nice hotel in a great location and for the price we paid I felt it was pleasant enough. The hotel itself is set in lovely well kept gardens, right on the sea front. The rooms were clean and of a decent size, they had air conditioning and a fridge.

Having read the trip advisor reviews, and being a family of fussy eaters, we decided to go breakfast only. I am glad we did as the menu was very Moroccan, which is fine if you like to try the local cuisine. However, we were more put off by the amount of flies and stray cats that also frequented the dinning area. Finding good places to eat outside the hotel was not a problem as we were surrounded by excellent restaurants and the prices started from 35 Dirhams (under £4) for a pizza. Although, if you do dine outside the issue with cats follow you. One evening when my daughter went away from the table for a few minutes one of the braver (or more hungry) cats jumped up and nabbed her left over chicken straight from the plate.

The music played around the pool can get very loud in the afternoon, so if you are not into clubbing vibes all day you may wish to request a quiet room. If you can get up early enough I would suggest grabbing the sunbeds on Al Moggar's beach as they are more comfy and quieter than those around the pool.

With regards to the tipping issue - We tipped the hotel maids & porters an average of 5-10 dirhams and we always had a smile from them. In the restaurants we rounded the bill up and although I think we may have tipped too much, we always had a friendly handshake when we left a restaurant which was nice.

Prior to leaving home we booked 2 trips on-line through Isango. A two hour tour of Agadir and a half day tour of the Atlas mountains. Both trips were fantastic and well worth the money! The tour of Agadir took us to the Kasbah (fort), which dominates the main hill in Agadir, and then onto the Souks (market). This was a great way to see the local area and our guide was very informative. My daughter managed to haggle a great price on some Nike trainers.
The Atlas mountain tour was brilliant as we went high up into the mountains. Unfortunately, we were unable to see the waterfalls at paradise valley as there had not been enough rain and the valley was dry. However, we saw breathtaking views including camels and tree climbing goats! We stopped at Imouzzer market and saw how they get the famous Argan oil. The guide was great entertainment and even dressed the children in traditional Moroccan head gear.

Overall, a fantastic week away had by all. The hotel was ok, as long as you understand it is a 2 star hotel, which I feel the staff are working hard to improve. I would recommend Al Moggar if you are looking for a reasonably priced place to stay in Agadir in a great location.

Room Tip: Ask for a quite room with a sea view if you don't mind steps!

The overall feeling of the Holiday at Al Moggar was a good one.

Having read these reviews previous to visiting, I was ready for the worst in my mind and was pleasantly surprised.

Here is a breakdown of what we found from the trip overall

Hotel:
The hotel is situated over a large plot with luscious gardens teaming with different species, mainly wonderful friendly kittens and cats of course and even on a couple of occasions spotted the local hotel tortoise who has lovingly been named Allen (after sexing the animal we established was a Male). There are 2 pools at the hotel, only visited the larger of the 2 a couple of days as preferred to spend most of our time at the private beach area just a few steps outside the hotel. This is a great addition to the hotel as not many of the local hotels provided this service for free. We got into the routine of changing our towels in the morning before breakfast down by the main pool at about 9:30 and then reserving our beds on the beach with Osama the beach attendant for the private area as can get quite tense in the afternoon sun with people seeking bed space. There is a real sense of Arab culture here as the majority of the visitors in the area seem to be local Moroccans. With this it is not suitable to walk around outside the hotel/beach in just a bikini, beach cover ups are a must!
Like many beach destinations there are the local beach vendors wandering up and down offering local gems such as rugs, fruits and jewellery. We were interested in henna and some of the jewels on offer and when bartering a good price we found that often these local sellers would prefer cigarettes (male) or even creams (females) instead of legal tender. So this is especially a plea to any women reading who have ample unused creams at home, which many of us do, to bring these to exchange for services. These basics are seen as luxuries to the locals, so keep this in mind.
I found the wifi surprising as I could even get access on the beach, as well as the lobby area. This however did not stretch to the rooms but there is a good selection of english channels available on the TV in the room.
There is an animation team at the pool area, on the days we chose to lounge here I was offered to partake in a game of beach volleyball which was a pleasant addition to the holiday as I often like to get some sporting activity in.

Rooms:
The room was a pleasant surprise. Was a very large room even with a separate seating area and outside patio area with table and chair. This became the hotspot for a lot of the cat action as we had popped to the supermarket to buy a large bag of dried food for the local cats as the area is teaming with them. (An absolute joy to put it mildly for a couple of kitty enthusiasts). The cats really respected boundaries as they would never cross the threshold into the room, only remaining in the patio/public areas. (NOTE: Using the ashtrays provided we would leave this filled with water in our patio area, as would other guests for the cats as this really helped in the midday sun to keep them cool). The room also featured a large bathroom, no bath but a shower with seating area. It is best to bring your own toiletries as the only ones offered in the room are a lone bar of soap, just suitable for hands.
We were also visited one night by a cockroach which for 2 young girls was not welcome. We left the room to seek aid from reception who sent 2 large burly men to locate and execute the bug. Reception could sense our distress and even offered us an upgrade to a sea view room if we still felt uneasy, to which we declined as we were perfectly happy with our room and knowing that the 2 gentlemen had successfully dealt with the cockroach this put our minds at rest.

Area:
The hotel is situated very centrally amongst many bars, restaurants, shops and night clubs. We only had a B&B booking so were happy to see the wide selection of restaurants on offer. The Moroccan Dirham is very cheap to the pound and this is reflected in the local prices. A sit down meal with drinks, starters and mains rarely came to over £5!
The weekends can see that the corniche becomes bustling with tourists and locals alike. It is a completely different atmosphere to in the week which some nights was found to be quite over whelming.
As previously mentioned this area is teaming with kittens and cats, most of which were extremely friendly, even more so when we offered ample dried food and water. While most of these cats are relatively clean and healthy some are sadly not as fortunate. This is why it is a necessity to bring anti-bacterial gel wherever you go if you are going to indulge in frolicking and playing with the cats to disinfect yourselves afterwards. I made the mistake of forgetting to pack it one outing and touched many cats and was quite ill that night, only lasted few hours but was still not pleasant.
Surprisingly the weather was not what we expected. The first day saw no sun with the sky remaining very overcast and a very noticeable chill in the air. The remaining days got better but still not great. With the afternoon often came the pounding heat of the sun which was aided with the strong atlantic breeze, which some days was so powerful we had to head to the pool area for some solace from the wind creating powerful sand storms.
Night time can also see the temperature really drop as the bareeze still remains strong. This is why I recommend to bring jumpers/cardigans or at least long sleeve tops.

Overall the week went quickly and we had a great time and did get excellent tans. Even had money left to change back at the airport. This is not a luxury hotel/holiday and should not be expected from the prices that are paid. Keep this in mind and remain respectful and I'm sure anyone can also have a great time.

Room Tip: Sea view rooms have private balconies, the other rooms patio area was accessed from a public walkway...

when we saw the web and all these fake comments on the net we decided to pre-book and stay there,,but it started to get fishy upon the check in.
we were asked to pay more than one night in advance.
we were given a room with a messy water leak that spoiled whatever we put on the floor as we rushed to get out and explore the hotel.
we asked the housekeeper to do something about it at 14h00,,we came back at 20h00 still the water was there.
when we informed the engineering guys we were told that "we" have to contact reception not them.
we called reception nobody took action,,we ended up using the bed sheet and whatever we had as towels so we can walk in the room.
midnight we had a visit of a guy with a mop telling me aggressively that it's not his job but he was forced to come and do it.
we decided to leave as soon as we get our breakfast,,and that's another experience: the chef was acting like he is talking to his colleague when i asked for pancake,,no manners no respect no etiquette, the buffet breakfast is a total mess,,nobody to assist,,no uniform for the staff,i had to ask if the person is working before i address a guest by mistake!!!! staff are arguing loudly like if they were at the back of the house,,busy exchanging jokes or last night stories,,,guests like me are running in circles helping themselves while most of them gave up and had whatever was displayed .
we saw the spa and my wife wanted to see the inside,,so we were greeted by a girl who kept on sniffing her runny noise and that was disgusting,,she handed us the spa menu with a filthy nails i wonder how can she do the treatment with that level of hygiene!!! so when we turned to leave she told her colleague that "it is too expensive for me" without noticing that was still next to her and i heard what she said,,i didnt want to react as my wife was there and we are on holidays.
on our way to the lobby when i gave back the receptionist the room key i was almost invisible to her she just grabbed it and turned her face away without any single word.
i wonder if this hotel has a duty manager/f&b manager/reception manager or even a general manager.
if the review is not understood in english for LMOGGAR HOTEL STAFF/INCHARGE i will re-write it in french and arabic so everyone will know about my experience.
