Well, I thought to myself, things must have gone terribly wrong since my last time here and my last review what with all the reports of rubbish strewn everywhere, filthy water being poured over the plants, paths dug up and nightmare habitués.
It's just as it always was, just a normal park without the nightmare scenarios described. More could be done, yes. I counted about 8 benches with no backrests. At the very top of the park there was some rubbish but as I turned to leave, I saw someone come along to pick it up. There were gardeners working this Saturday afternoon. The trees and plants really are kept immaculately.
I do wish, however, that they would either dismantle the abandoned children's amusement park completely or repair/renovate it. It was such a lovely place to come in the past. And, as a man walking alone in the park, I was approached 3 times by what I assume were 3 different gentlemen of the night working by day. One only has to say "no thanks", of course.
On the "tree tunnel road", the one in my picture that has the Pergola du Parc at the top of it, there are loads of really nice cafés and ice cream parlours shaded by old growth trees and which are full of people at leisure. It's a stone's throw from Mohammed V Square, so is definitely worth a look for a nice relaxing coffee or cold drinks and ice cream. The "avenue of palms" and the tree tunnels are fabulous photo ops too!
