“Gorgeous riad”
Reviewed 2 November 2012

Dar El Ma is the perfect place to stay in Fes.

Location-wise, it is in a good neighbourhood and merely a stone's throw away from the hustle and bustle of the medina.

The property itself is stunning. The owners have done an outstanding job renovating the riad. Exploring the several floors of Dar El Ma can be quite the adventure! There is a washer, a dryer, a Turkish bath (one indoors and one on the roof), and a Berber bed in each room.

There are only two rooms in the riad. For two of the three nights we stayed there, we were the only guests. It was like having a huge house to ourselves.

Houda prepared great breakfasts for us.

I would highly recommend Dar El Ma.

Dar el Mar is such a lovely house that combines comfortable living quarters with an excellent Medina position in a real and thriving neighbourhood. We were welcomed by Houda who provided an excellent breakfast and gave us good advice about where to visit etc. It really felt like excellent value for money as we could self cater if we choose and as the house is beautifully decorated and comfortable yet at a very reasonable price. I would thoroughly recommend it to anyone.

We spent 3 nights in this beautifully restored traditional riad. All credit to the owners for the amazing work they've done!
Rooms are spacious, very well decorated and bed comfortable. Superb views from the roof terrace.
Special thanks to Houda for her kindness and lovely breakfast and Aziz for guiding us through the medina. We hope to come back again in the future.

Walking into Dar El Ma was like walking into our own private palace!
All our senses were up for a treat: It looks absolutely stunning with all those jolly colours, lovely Houda makes most amazing mint teas and delicious breakfests, at the background you can hear calming rush of the medina.
And then when everything got little bit darker and noises quiten up I sneeked up the roof top terace and had the most liberating shower under the stary Fez sky.
It is princ/ess retreat!

We had the most amazing stay at Dar El Ma. Its the most charming place to stay; full of character. After a long day exploring the buzz and bustle of the souk, you walk through the front door and are immediately transported into a cool calm atmosphere a million miles away from everthing, such a relaxing place to rest up and recharge the batteries. We particularly enjoyed unwinding on the roof top terrace in the evening and listening to the Souk come to life. We'll definitely be back again soon!

We stayed at Dar El Ma and could not have been more content. As three packpackers we thought this sort of accomodation would be way out of our price range but it was excellent value. The house is beautiful and was the perfect retreat from the chaos of the medina. Listening to the call to pray on the awesome roof top terrace was a trip highlight. Aziz the property manager and Houda the wonderful lady who cooked our delicious breakfasts were fantastic people and had many good chats with them. Aziz also has heaps of local knowledge and gave us some great tips. The facilities were all excellent and our whole stay was 10 out of 10, we have stayed in some great places throughout Morocco but Dar El Ma has been the best, we loved out time here and would recomend it to anyone, backpackers, families, couples it was the tops!

Dar Elma was one of the most beautiful places that we stayed during our trip. Houda and Aziz were extremely kind and caring. They couldn't have been nicer to my mother and me. The riad is located in the heart of Medina and not far from the Blue Gate. The room was beautifully decorated and huge for two people. The bathrooms were clean and big. There are only two rooms in the house, so sharing was no problem at all. The kitchen is well equipped with refrigerator, stove, and pots and pans. The breakfast on the roof is fantastic with the spectacular view of the Fez medina. Everything was just perfect and we had the best stay at this jewel in Fez.
