“Only hotel in Fes that tolerate false guides”
Reviewed 11 September 2012

I have stayed many times and the cascade and love many things about the place. The staff are lovely, the rooms are clean and the beds are confortable. The bes thing about the hotel is the lovely roof terrace where you can have tea and meet other travellers or just relax in a social space that so many hotels lack. The terrace is also run by the lovely Rushdie, a great friendly man who is willing to give excellent advice on Fes. Also, it is worth pointing out that while spending over 3 months in the hotel in total, I have never experienced any theft from the rooms or any other problems with the staff.

However, despite all this the hotel has lost my business because of its awful management. It is the only hotel in Fes, and perhaps in Morocco, that allows 'false guides' to freely roam the hotel at all hours of the day and night attempting to rip tourists off, deal drugs and even be openly hostile and agressive. On many occasions I have had to assertively ask them to leave us alone. One night one even knocked on our door late at night for no apparent reason, which makes you feel insecure in an otherwise secure hotel. Added to this, if any of the other guests decide to make noise in their room, by sitting up all night drinking as they tend to, you will receive no help from the night staff who are unwilling to ensure you get a good nights sleep.

In short, this old hotel is a place where drinking and drugs are tolerated which means that you are unlikely to get a good nights sleep.

If you look for a nice friendly hotel, in the middle of the Medina of Fés with nice food available and nice price. Full of packpackers and people who do not want to pay for sleeping. Not for pensioners and otehr middleaaged peaceloving humans. With lots of life and noice :)

Room Tip: If you need sleeping, check the time and room direction when you visit as the sound of the mosques i...

Located just next to the medina this hotel offers very simple rooms with big bed and mirror only. It seems it has not been renovated for a long time. The bedlinen was clean but you could notice a lot of spiderwebs in the corners. The bathroom located outside very basic, when taking shower passersby could see your head and feet as the doors were made in Morrocan style. Good breakfast though the restaurant was quite neglected in design.

Room Tip: Take a room not facing minaret if you do not like being woken up early in the morning..

This no-frills hotel is very basic, probably the best what you can get for that price in Fez. Rooms are very simple, they weren't dirty, but they just beg for some renovation.
If you don't want to be woken up around 4 o'clock, try to avoid rooms facing minarets.

At the end of my 2 week trip to morocco I finished with 4 nights in Fes. We checked into hotel cascade for the first night.

The hotel was cheap ~80MAD per person and the location was fantastic. Furthermore the staff were all very friendly and the showers were hot. We felt though that the hotel was lacking a good atmosphere and tried to find another option. As we couldn't find anywhere else for our budget that we liked, we returned to cascade for the remainder of our stay.

I would recommend to anyone that is travelling on a budget but not for those who enjoy the finer things in life (such as toilet seats).

Three of us traveled Morocco and Fes was our last stop before heading home. My husband and I have stayed in this hotel several times over the years. Our first visit was about twelve years ago -- it has improved in leaps since then. You can't beat the location -- inside the medina with cafes all 'round. For our more "fancy" friend, on our last visit, this was almost a breaking point for him. I offered to take him and his baggage to a nearby nicer hotel if he needed it, but he declined and in the end, staying here has become one of his favorite memories of the trip. The door lock was faulty enough in appearance that anyone could have put a shoulder to the door and busted in. Fortunately, the only way in is past the ever-present person watching TV in the stairwell. The room was clean, as were the sheets. The noise from the street was ever-present but I loved it -- made me feel like we were in the heart of a living community. Over the years this has become more of a backpacker hotel, which is fine with us. Bathrooms on the hall, the toilets have SEATS, the shower was warm and cramped, but at least there was one. The sinks are communal and also in the hall. We did NOT get our room broken into, in spite of the misgivings of our friend. The terrace was a new addition since our last visit, too, but I confess we did not spend much time there as the cafes on the "street" have so much more flavor and things to see of Morocco, instead of other travellers. The rooftop is definitely worth spending the sunset time on -- wait for the call to prayer and watch the birds come out to swarm around. We will certainly check it out again, and stay for a fourth time.

Room Tip: Definitely ask for a room with windows overlooking the medina street if you are able. Otherwise the...

Stayed here for a couple of nights in April with two friends. The room was basic but clean (for morocco budget traveler standards). Communal Toilets always were stinky but once again, quite usual for morocco. Showers were basic and you were lucky if you got hot water.
The plus side, the terrace is lovely to hang out on and the small kitchen whipped up some delicious meals. I would stay here again.
