After spending a few nights at the Dar Houdou Guest House I can honestly say I have never stayed in a more welcoming Guest House, despite my extensive travels. The hosts were welcoming and went above and beyond with their help and local knowledge - nothing was too much trouble. The linen was clean and general upkeep of the guest house was superb and the traditional Moroccon decor was beautiful. Even the breakfast was faultless. I would highly recommend to anyone looking for a beautiful Guest House in this area.

Wonderful stay. My fiancé and I had a great time at Dar Houdou. Steven and Mohammed run a charming, well-situated guest house in the medina of Fes. They were very accommodating of our travel schedule, and fixed us a delicious breakfast both mornings. Given the opportunity, we'd happily stay at Dar Houdou again.

There isn't really much to add, it's all been said - great place, nice rooms, outstanding service, EPIC breakfasts, good advice from Steve about where to go and what to see. I cannot understand how this place is as cheap as it is. Steve sorted us out a day trip and pickup from the train station on arrival. In a few months of travel, this was my favourite place to stay, I can't really give it a higher endorsement!

My husband and I have just returned from a week at Dar Houdou. Our time in Fez was wonderful, and our stay at Dar Houdou only made it better. Mohammad is gracious, kind, and helpful. Our room was very clean, breakfasts were delicious and beautifully presented. This riad is tastefully appointed with many beautiful touches. The feeling is welcoming, attentive and relaxed. We were free to make tea or coffee, use the laptop, choose from an excellent selection of reading material, including design and textile books about Morocco, while we were there. An important addition--I felt unwell one day and both Mohammad and the lovely charwoman recommended black olives, a remedy I had never heard of, but guess what?! they did the trick. This is a lovely place with lovely people.

Room Tip: Our bathroom didn't have a shower curtain, so showering got things kind of damp. On the other h...

If you're looking for a posh riad, this is not it. If you're looking for friendly service, clean rooms, and a fantastic location in the medina at a budget-friendly price, check out Dar Houdou. Mohammad was very friendly, the breakfast was amazing, and the room was comfortable, if small, as was the bathroom. If you're keen on sleeping in, also consider ear plugs as breakfast preparations can be heard throughout the building.

Small guest-house with very personal experience. Location is absolutely perfect. Very, very comfortable accommodation with great attention to detail - super comfortable beds, very high quality bedding, electric blankets, great showers, oil heaters in the rooms and even extension cords with multiple outlets allowing everything to be charged at once. Breakfast was perhaps the most generous we experienced in 5 weeks in Morocco. Steve is an awesome host and provided all sorts of useful advice, even taking us to a couple of reputable shops to source various goods (and without earning a commission, as is so typical in Morocco). Impossible to fault and really good value for money. The accommodation is easy to find when you know your way around, but it's definitely worth arranging to be met or picked up when arriving.
