This is huge mansion with a coverd patio in its center. Rooms are located around it on two floors. There is a very nice terrace with great views on top. Rooms are large, clean and tastefully equipped. Bathrooms are good, as is the location, a short walk to the souq. However, best of all is the owner, Chantal, a loveley lady from Dijon. No doubt, she's the best chef of Morocco, so eat at Riad Al Safadi if you stay there.

Dar al-Safadi, the carefully restored house owned by Chantal, is a treat in every way.
A 'budget' world-traveler all my life, this was perhaps the most luxurious place I've ever been in so I fully enjoyed the hedonist pleasures of the traditional house in the Fez medina. We were three couples from Canada visiting the Sacred Music Festival for a week. This house has been furnished with attentive and pleasing details everywhere you look, including rose petals in the fountain and fresh flowers in the rooms, all thanks to Chantal who is truly and deservedly proud of her place.
This is a private house with a closed door (you ring the bell when you want to enter) so there's no people off the street or lookie-lous around which adds to the feeling of privilege. It's in a quiet part of the medina but not that hard to find once you get your bearings. None of the complaint elsewhere, of loud people watching TV, took place when we were there: silence and discretion on the part of the dedicated staff reigned. Chantal is warm, helpful and patient at all times and her love of cooking is indeed legendary. No restaurant in Fez could hold a candle to her perfect synthesis of Moroccan and French cuisine, one creative course after another.
Learn to be amazed, to admire the architecture and craftmanship, to lounge and be languid in the pillows of this true 'Orientalist' experience (at a very reasonable price, to boot). With very many thanks to Chantal's personal vision in making this an exquisite and memorable holiday.

We had planned this trip for a couple of months for my birthday celebration. We reserved all the Riads in different cities around Morcco but we still had to find a descent Riad in Fes.
After many requests for reservations in different Riads and being rejected for being fully booked, I found Dar Al Safadi here in Tripadvisor.

At first my girlfriend did not want to stay here because they did not have a website, but I was getting worried since we were travelling in two days. I finally emailed Dar Al Safadi and made the reservation. Didn't care what my girlfriend said. After all, it was my birthday celebration.

We travelled around Morocco and found Dar Al Safadi the best Riad in Morocco.

The Riad was very well located. The price was fair. The rooms are beautifuly decorated and the tub is big enough to hold a few people. The terrace was great and we were abe lo see Fes in a different perspective.

But above all, the food was amazing. Chantal is a great chef and she uses Moroccan ingredients and cooks them with french techniques. She did a 6 course menu for us and every single one of them was perfectly cooked and prepared.

i strongly recommend this Riad if you are in Fes.

You can't do better than this riad for the price. We were the only guests for four days, enjoying every part of this beautiful traditional Arab home and welcoming staff. Our suite was large and comfortable, with wifi in the courtyard. The rooftop terrace, with lounges, tables, and bouganvillia, shows the rooftops of Fes from morning til night. The sounds of the children playing in the schoolyard across the "street" are delightful. And now for the food: worth every dirham! Breakfast is included, but be sure to have a romantic, private dinner there prepared and served perfectly just for you by Chantal and the staff. When we go back to Fes, this will again be our home base.

By viewing the photos, we already knew that this place had a very ornate decor, furniture/structure somewhat dated. From prior reviews, many had said that the dinner is very good. I was sure to sign up for dinner w/ Chantal!

The location wasn't too bad, about a 10 minute walk to the Medina. w/ that said, the location can be potentially quiet.

- However, one item that took away from our stay was noise w/in the riad. Throughout our stay, there always seemed to be a group of 5-7men who were not guests (& didn't look management related either) who frequented the place about twice a day.
Jokingly coined the "The Homies," they always seated near the only TV in the riad w/ staff. These men were pretty loud, making a midday catnap & evening bedtime difficult.
They had apparently taken precedence over guests as we had to wait for them to leave
before we could receive service.

As w/ Morocco itself, French is the preferred Western language. Chantal was the only English speaker. Communication was sometimes difficult as she would often break into French when discussing specific details.

But, despite the above, our experience was positive. Though the room is older, it was clean & very spacious. The terrace has a great view of the city. The white & rose wines, were absolutely delicious, affordable too (~ 14 USD/bottle). And yes, the dinner we had prepared was absolutely wonderful. A French fusion style w/ Moroccan foods/products!

We stayed here for three nights as part of a week's trip to Morocco.
The riad is very beautiful. The patio is stunning with many palatial features. Our bedroom was a very good size, beautiful decor with room for seating and a huge bathroom with shower. Chantal and her team make you feel very welcome and provide a very high standard of service. We pre ordered dinner the first evening and had the most delicious meal I have had in Morocco. Six courses, each freshly prepared and there was no problem asking for vegetarian food. Our breakfast was delicious too and varied slightly each day.
The view from the roof terrace was amazing and a great place to sit back and relax.
The location was perfect for us. Very close to Bab Ziat, we soon found our way around. There are helpful markers along the way to help you find the sights. It only takes about 10 minutes to reach the start of the shopping area and there are nice restaurants near by too. We had a lovely pizza at Aji Chouf which is just around the corner. It's a takeaway but they also have a small roof terrace with amazing views over Fez.

I can only confirm all the remarks done in the other reviews; what i can add beyond the nice words referring to the beautiful place with the kind madame Chantal is the professional way of handling request for guides / taxis etc. and this for very moderate prices. This is also true for the delicious breakfast and diner.
An extra word of praise for the whole crew: personnel was competent, friendly, working hard, reacting on every request if things were not working properly.
What can i say more ? Just go and enjoy.
