“Good restaurant just outside the Blue Gate”
Reviewed 4 October 2012

We ate here one night and found that the food was good and inexpensive. It had a nice atmosphere about it too, and it also had a roof terrace. Being just outside the Blue Gate, it was quieter and not as busy as the restaurants just inside the gate. The cost per person with tip for a main course and drink was about 100 DMs, or about $11.50.

“Nice restaurant, excelent food and good selection of dishes”
Reviewed 6 August 2011

Although the medina cafe is more expensive than the other cafe's around the Bab Boujloud its also much cleaner and the food is of better quality. On the menu is a big selection of special dishes we did not see any where else f.e. filled pigeon, which is very recommendable. The roof terrace is nice and has a view of the bab, but cannot be compared with the view from one of the cheaper cafe's around the bab that have a more clear view of the bab and the small square around it.

“Excellent food, nice little cafe”
Reviewed 30 October 2010

This place appears to have slipped off the Lonely Planet list which now describes the food as a bit disappointing. I would disagree. I have to say when first presented with the menu which is a bit limited and contains a few dishes that don't specify which meat you are eating (e.g. "meat" tagine), I was a bit wary. That said we ordered the Vegetable Couscous and the Lamb tagine with dried fruits both of which were excellent, the Lamb tagine in particular. It is not a fancy place but as a small local restaurant serving very good food at reasonable prices it is well worth a visit. The owner is quiet but very friendly and it offers a more authentic experience than Cafe Clock round the corner. Nice little roof terrace though without views.

“When you don't speak French - its a pity when the menu is in French”
Reviewed 19 October 2010

My friends and I arrived late into the Medina cafe and I was quite disappointed at the high priced menu that I couldnt understand. So, we eventually ordered - eeny meeny miny mo - my friends ended up with some rather sad looking spring rolls and I received chicken with the best sauce that I had the whole time I was in Morocco - fantastic sauce but I have absolutely no idea what it was!!!!
