This amazing Riad in the very heart of the medina of Fes does not only offer incredible views from its roof top terrace but also high quality rooms decorated with lot of concern and love for details. The bed and bedding was perfect. Every room has AC that can also be used as a heating. Two rooms share a very nice bathroom with a real good shower (good water pressure and constant water temperature – which is rare in Morocco!). The highlight is the double room on the roof that has huge windows and its own bathroom! The staff is extremely helpful and friendly. Make sure to have a reservation so that you can be picked up at the entrance of the medina and guided through the maze – no way you will find it on your own! As soon as you are checked in you are provided with a detailed map and good explanation so that you can find your own way. You can also have dinner there but have to tell the staff in advance. We loved to stay there and can highly recommend this Riad!

Room Tip: be sure to get a room with a window to the medina - the double room on the roof is certainly the bes...

Great Riad in the heart of Fez Medina. Our group of 9 stayed at Dar Gnaoua for 3 nights in April-11. We had the advantage of renting the entire riad during our stay. Didier was there to greet us and then he and Laurence both left for France. So it felt like our own vacation rental with a staff of Achmed and Youssef to support us. The riad is beautiful restored, with a nice roof top terrace, nice sized bed rooms with large bathrooms.

Pro's
Owners - extremely responsive as you soon as you contact,
Staff - Achmed, Youssef extremely helpful, friendly
Food - We ate 3 dinners at Riad and each was very tasty, breakfast was very good too
Location - heart of Medina
Cleanliness
Con's
Fez medina is difficult to navigate around during night time

I would highly recommend Dar Gnaoua to anyone who visits Fez

I stayed in the Dar for one week in the Menzehroom, which is the room at the top of the house. The room, like the whole house is nicely decorated and spacious. The room has three big windows with a beautiful view over the terrace and Medina.Very relaxing atmosphere with this view, while Achmed serves breakfast and helps you with every question. Dinner was ok, the chicken with almonds was very nice, but I preferred to go out and try other local restaurants. The location is great, except for people with a heart-condition (quite some stairs to climb to reach the Dar). However, locals have warned me not to wander the streets in this area after dark and alone. Youssef, the nightwatch was kind enough to accompany me from Bab Rcif.(at the taxistop).

I have been lucky enough to visit Fes several times and stayed in some lovely Riads and Masion D'Hotes - Dar Gnaoua is the best by far. Laurence and Didier have faithfully restored this beautiful building since purchasing it in 2004. As a solo traveller and the only guest staying during my visit I was made to feel so welcome by Laurence and Ahmed. I had booked a single room but was invited to stay in the beautiful double room on the top floor for no extra charge. Was made to feel more like part of the family rather than a paying guest. The attention to detail in the restoration is perfect and the views from the terrace unsurpassed anywhere else I have stayed in Fes. A perfet retreat to relax, read, and enjoy a little piece of heaven on earth.

Room Tip: Stay on the top floor if possible to best enjoy the amazing terrace and its views.

We stayed at Dar Gnaoua in July 2011 and were blown away by so much- the design and decoration of the rooms, the stunning view of Fez from the terrace, the delicious chicken pastilla (the best we had in Morocco!)... but we were especially touched by the hospitality of Ahmed, who took such good care of us! We were recommended a guide, which was very useful for a place so rich in culture as Fez, and he was charming. Laurence, the owner, was amazingly responsive via email and was extremely helpful in the planning stages and after we had arrived in Morocco and got a little lost finding the place.
I would love to go back to Fez for longer and would stay at Dar Gnaoua again if I had the chance to.

I had a lovely stay at Dar Gnaoua. The owners organised a taxi from the airport, and then one of the hotel staff met me outside the medine to guide me to the hotel (cars can't get through the medina), so it was no stress at all to get to. The staff, Ahmed and Youseff looked after me very well and helped with all queries and were always available. The view from the terrace is amazing, a great place to have breakfast. I will stay again!

We stayed at this place during eastern holidays with our three children and were very delighted. We would recommend this place to everybody. It seemed like we had a house of our own in this marvelous town. The owner, Didier and the housekeeper Ahmed are very friendly and helpful. They learn you how to find your way in the old medina without a guide. Not easy but we succeeded and could visit everything the way we wanted it. The Riad itself is marvelous, very well restaured and clean. You do not expect what is behind the small door and corridor when you arrive there. We hope to go back one day. With or without children, for a short citytrip or a longer break, this place is thé place to be and to discover the old medina.
