“The perfect Riad in the perfect place”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 26 April 2011

It's a really nice Riad in the heart of Medina, it's five minutes walking from the Blue Gate, but at the same time is far from noises, it's like an oasis of peace in the middle of the funny caos of Medina. Rooms are nice and comfortables, and they serve a wonderful breakfast on the nice terrace. A friendly and kind staff is waiting for you there!!!

Extremely friendly and helpful staff. Location is perfect, in a quiet corner a minute away from Talaa Kebira. The central courtyard is peaceful and charming. Breakfasts are plentiful. The rooms are basic but clean and en-suite with hot showers, although a bit dark as all windows lead to the courtyard.

Pros:
Beautiful 17th century interior
Very quiet
Super helpful, warm and friendly staff. Zak and his team really helped us out a lot.
Reasonably priced (for Fes, anyway)

Cons:
Bathrooms are small and wet
Cold in winter, though the rooms do have A/C
Hard to find - ask for someone to meet you at the gate

This is a great place to dump your bags and go explore the Medina. It's not somewhere you'll find yourself lounging around probably, but it is nevertheless a nice retreat from the madness of the Medina.

The first very annoying thing is the remotness of this place-it's hard to find it yourself, and the hustlers the owner would sent for you to the airport would hardly try to rip you off...
the second and I guess the worst thing is the overwhelming dump of this place......water from the bathroom would flood you stuff in the room [the whole room would be around max.4m2 with no reliable light source..
If the owners tried to make the impression of living in the deep Middle Ages they achieved their goal...
It's horrible place and would never recommend it to anyone

The locatn is certainly tops but be aware that, like most riads, the rooms are a bit dark & the bathrooms leave a bit to be desired. Still, the staff were super friendly & helpful.

It was certainly cheapish so you get what you pay for - and Pension Sekaya was good value.

We stayed at Pension Sekaya in the middle of September for 2 nights. You definitly get what you pay for and unfortunetly I wish we paid a little more.

The positives:
- Great location just off the main drag
- Cheap
- Air con in the room

The negatives
- Damp even in 30 degree heat
- Unfriendly and unhelpful staff, excluding the daughter who was lovely
- The bed smelt like urine
- Noisy and more of a backpackers hostel than other riads I have stayed in.

We ended up moving to another riad for the last night to get away from the constant dampness and smell. After a long day in the medina, all you really want is to come back to somewhere nice and homely.

To get to the Pension for the first time, you’ll need someone to guide you because it’s located in the heart (read: labyrinth) of the Fez’ Medina. But it’s really worth the effort to get a feeling of staying in the real Fez. It’s a beautiful hotel with clean rooms and good breakfast. The staff is always there to help. You can go for a meal on the rooftop of the restaurant Sekaya nearby the pension from where you can enjoy a great meal and an even greater view of the old city.
