“Lovely interior decor but disappointing service”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 4 July 2010

I had quite high expectations from this hotel, considering the fantastic reviews that it has recieved in its short life of being an operational hotel. I agree the interior decor reflected the traditional feel of moroccon life, alongside being palatable for western tastes. The authenticity of the hotel is hence somewhat marred by this clean-cut style. The staff were helpful and friendly and the location is perfect for accessing the busy medina and other historical attractions. However, having told the owner two weeks in advance that there were five of us staying, we were surprised to find the third bed in one of the rooms being haphazardly prepared upon our arrival and more suited to an eight year old child, rather than a twenty-five year old. Three of us stayed in this renovated 'bedoom' on the ground floor which felt like more of an afterthought, as the bathroom was cramped and dark with poor design layout and we were repeatedly woken up during the night by other guests who were arriving right outside our door. We mentioned this to the owner the morning after, and although we could see many vacant rooms, she couldnt offer us any alternative. My parents slept in the room upstairs, which i was told was free of any external noise. Overall i would rate this hotel as acceptable, but having stayed in a much more authentic hotel in marrakesh for a fraction of the price, i would be tempted to seek another place of residence to reflect the friendly and beautiful city of Fes. I would recommend it for a first-timer, however make sure your room isnt on the ground floor, otherwise you'll wake up grumpy and underslept. Not a good start!

Lovely Hotel. Very useful to have an English owner so language was no problem. The hotel is pretty central so the centre of the old town is only a stroll away. Fes is a fascinating city with lots to see and a great atmosphere. Well worth a visit.

This is one of the best hostels Ive stayed in. The staff are super friendly and they will do anything to help you when you need it. Nour, the owner, will show you places where the locals go, whether for food or drinks, so you could get the best value for cheap. He went out of his way to try to organize a desert trip for us into the Sahara. If ever you have problems, they really will go out of their way to find a solution. We really appreciated the service, thanks guys!

I had high expectations given the rave reviews this riad has received on trip advisor and other websites. I arrived to find that the bed I had booked and paid for in the dorm room was over booked. They were kind to upgrade me to another room. But it deteriorated from there.......During my stay I was twice woken up by loud talking and yelling. Upon my arrival, I was also asked if I was interested in a tour of the Medina the next day and I told them I was. The next day there was nobody around to arrange the tour with and by 10:30 am I gave up. There was a lovely lady who served breakfast but there was no one to explain to me where the riad was on the map in relation to the medina (tip how about putting a map on your website?). Instead, another guest suggested he show me the way to the souks and he drew a map for me. Its a shame, as the riad is beautifully restored and is in a good location. Also, I think its a bit cheeky providing no toiletries at the prices they are charging. Maybe I was just very unlucky at stayed during a bad period for the riad.

We stayed at the Riad Verus in June and it was a lovely experience. We got a room in the top most penthouse suite if you want to call it that and the rooms are well maintained with a nice comfortable springy mattress.
Breakfast is excellent and you are spoilt for choice in terms of eggs...
The downstairs room is a little noisy at night since it ajoins the main reception area but will only wake you if you are a very light sleeper.
Location is excellent, only a short walk from the main Medina where everything is...
Wifi internet will only be gotten in certain areas, you wont get it in the top most penthouse suite but there is a chillout area on the ground floor. The thick walls prevent the wi-fi from getting everywhere but minor shortfall. The owner leanora is a lovely lady and will quickly put you at ease with everything - being british but understanding the arabic culture entirely...

Just spent a few wonderful days in riad Verus in Fes... Simply amazing! The riad itself is charming and clean, full of light, beautifully renovated and very classy (but still affordable!) the staff and owner are welcoming and helpful (and God knows I had a lot of questions!!). Just loved the homely and laid-back atmosphere! I'm definitely going back there the next time I travel to Fes! Strongly recommending it to anyone willing to experience the charms and wonders of life in a riad in Fes!
