“Enchanting Family Run Restaurant”
Reviewed 12 November 2013

This all felt like an adventure. It was recommended to us and we would never have found it by ourselves tucked away as it is in the heart of the medina. Luckily we had a guide through the maze of darkened mediaevel allies. The bright light from inside the porch was a welcome sight. The lady of the house runs the show and it has a home cooking feel to it with essentially a choice between 4 set menus. We ordered 3 menus between the 2 adults and 2 teenagers and that was plenty. Really. In fact that seemed a general rule of thumb in Morocco 2 or 3 meals between 4 worked fine 4 was always ridiculous. Everything was very tasty and we has an enormous variety of meze style cold and hot starters. The Turkey skewers were delicious as was the pastill which thankfully was not quite as sweet as it can be. After the meal, our hostess showed us round the lrestored living quarters of this 9th century mansion where they have lived for severl generations. Agin, thankfully we were excorted safely home. All for a very reasonable price.

“The smile of the owner makes up for the food”
Reviewed 11 November 2013

We visited this restaurant after we read the review on Trip advisor. The restaurant is inside the Medina and nice and cozy. The alleyways leading up to the restaurant is absolutely filthy and narrow and expects harassment from the boys on streets trying to make a quick buck. We had a good experience. The ambience inside the restaurant is good and the owner (women) is friendly with a big laugh. However we found food Ok. Probably the owner’s big smile makes up for the food.

“the perfect place for authentic delicious food”
Reviewed 1 November 2013

The lovely owner and her mother in law cook up the most amazing Moroccan food you will taste in Fes. Fresh and clean flavours. The portions are huge and you are full on the starter. but I do recommend try her chicken pie it is LUSH! very good.
Her house where the restaurant is based is an eye openers sooooooooo amazing her brother in law is a genius for making it. Thank you very much for inviting us to your home of Eid ul Adha and your love and kind hospitality. May Allah always bless you. amen. Asmah, Feizal, Maleehah and Ishaaq.

“Must-visit restaurant in Fez”
Reviewed 1 November 2013

Our riad reserved a table for us at Restaurant Dar Hatim, and Fouad, one of the owners, came to pick us up. That's necessary, as you'd never find it, as it hides in one of the byways of the medina. The restaurant is in a wonderful old home, still lived in by the warm and welcoming family, with astonishing carved wooden ceilings (done by a family member) and tiles everywhere. You could easily dine on the array of salads brought to your table at the beginning of the meal but that is indeed only the beginning. The pastilla is made to order and is probably the best you'll find in Morocco. Bring your own wine. A really special experience.

“Good Home Cooked Moroccan Food”
Reviewed 30 October 2013

As many other places it can be difficult to find and our hotel was relatively close so they came to our hotel to escort us to the restaurant We received a very warm welcome when we arrived and the hostess asks you to treat her home as your home. Dar Hatim has a room set aside within their house to serve as the restaurant – the room was full (always a good sign). There is a set menu; a Moroccan salad (a large selection of different salads) to start, a choice for the main course, followed by fruit. The food was good quality home cooked Moroccan food. The room itself has a fantastic ornate wooden ceiling and the hostess will proudly show you the room above which has an equally ornate ceiling. The restaurant does not serve alcohol, but if you wish you can bring your own, but it was nice to have a break and have an alcohol free evening!
