“The best ryad in Fes”
Reviewed 6 January 2012

The Ryad Alya is a great place for staying in Fes: beautiful design, perfect location, clean and very comfort rooms. The stuff is a very friendly, professional, educated. They give you best presentation of history and traditions of Fes. You feel like in a family. The Chef Fattah is a real master of cooking - in four days no one repeat of this delicious meal. The owner personaly communicates with guests for better understanding our needs and mood. You realy stay there like Royal family. We strongly recomend this Ryad for them who like to stay in amasing place in full comfort and wonderful ambiente. Ekaterina and Mikhail

Room Tip: All rooms are very comfortable, our room - "Tiznit" has beautiful berber design

My wife & I stayed in July 2011. Beautifully restored Ryad. Fantastic reviews from rooftop where breakfast and dinner is served. Fatah couldn't have been more helpful to make our stay a memorable one. Breakfast and dinner was absolutely divine. Fresh, homemade breads, jams and traditional meals. 200 metres from the main square and entrance to the souks. Stay in a suite if you can. Beautiful courtyard greets you when you open the door. Wouldn't hesitate to recommend. Very good value for money.

Room Tip: Stay in a suite if possible. The small rooms are too close to the alley and very noisy.

I went to Fes in October and I´ve stayed in Riad Alya just after one desert trip. It was the perfect timing to relax: amazing place with a very good smell, the most friendly staff I´ve ever met, delicious breakfast and unforgettable dinner! Everybody in the hotel was very worried about my staying and I really want to come back. In fact, I will soon and Riad Alya will be my main stop!

This place is just great. Really incredible. We stayed in Suite Meknes and our friends stayed in Suite Rabat. We ordered a pick up from the airport organized by the hotel. Large SUV whisked us away nearly to the front door of the hotel - it is inside the medina - on the edge of it, so the car got about 20-30 meters away from the front door. The drive from the airport costs about €15/person one way.

You would NEVER EVER know that the Riad was there if you just walked by. The riad is beyond hidden, but inside it really is beautiful. We really enjoyed the Suite Meknes. The carving on the ceiling was just wonderful to wake up to and the enormous tub/shower was a fun extra. We ran out of hot water, but within a half hour hot water was restored.

The first and third nights there we ate at the hotel and the dinner was exceptional morrocan fare. Breakfast was good as well and the carrot jam was literally to die for. We had several teas in the afternoon - "on the house" on the rooftop. Watching the sun set in Fes from the roof top was a memorable experience. My wife had the massage and hammam more than once - obviously enjoyed it to return again.

The prayer call early in the morning takes a day or two to get used to. I woke up the first day at around 4 AM.

The staff speaks OK English, and excellent French. They were friendly and attentive. Amine is just wonderful - he is a former boxing champion - so if you need a guide who can defend you ... ;).

Unfortunately, we were not that happy with our guide. We were a bit naive and didn't know that the guides were paid by the hotel, restaurants, stores, etc. in the form of commission. That is fine, but it should be said up front. It is not that I don't want my guide to earn money, it is just that I want to know that before hand so I can decide where I will go and what I will buy.

Since we would arrive late we ordered dinner in advance. They made us a great tajine with chicken and onions. It was the best tajine we had in Morocco. So try dinner there. The Riad is a beautiful palace. Parking just 2 minutes walk from the Riad and guarded for 30 dirham a night. The rooms are good, especially the one on the groundfloor, all very clean. But the most important was the staff. The were realy excellent. They did everything to make you feel at home. It was a great experience meeting this people. Special thanks to Fattah, who made us feel like we were so wanted! It was like he was there only for us. When we left he gave us home-made pastries for on our way. They also have a beautifull hamman and a great roofterrace. The Riad is like a palace. I would recommend this place for anyone visiting Fes!
