“Amazing Riad, Food, and Staff”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 1 April 2012

We stayed in Palais Amani for 1 week in March 2012. The outdoor areas of the Riad are beautiful, with 2 roof terraces and a courtyard garden, all with plenty of relaxing seating areas. It is a very peaceful place, and well situated within the Medina of Fes, a 5 minute walk to the main paths through the city.

The food and service were absolutely fantastic. Fresh fruit juice, fruit, yoghurts, coffee, and bread for breakfast every day, as well as a traditional cooked course (e.g. Moroccan pancakes with almond paste) which was different every day. We ate in the Riad on several evenings, as well as trying some other restaurants in Fes, and think that Palais Amani must have the best restaurant in Fes.

One of the best things about the Riad is the attention to detail and small touches that improve your stay, including: being greeted in the car park on arrival and escorted to the Riad by foot; fresh mint tea and biscuits every afternoon (and on arrival), free WiFi, chocolates and water every evening as part of the turn down service. All of the staff are very friendly and accommodating. A great place which I would highly recommend.

Room Tip: Not all rooms have a TV so if this is important, might be a good idea to request a room with a TV wh...

We enjoyed ourselves immensely during our three days with Abdul, Kriselda and the rest of the crew at Plais Amani. This is a beautifully restored riad, and we recommend it highly.

Room Tip: The Misriah apartment, with two bedrooms, a private rooftop and plenty of living and lounging space...

We ended our 8 night Moroccan honeymoon at Palais Amani in Fes. The hotel staff was kind enough to upgrade us to the honeymoon suite, which was spacious and comfortable. I really loved the side by side glass enclosed standing shower. The rooms open up onto the riad's lovely courtyard. We had a candlelit dinner just steps from our room. As Moroccan custom, the included breakfasts featured many filling courses. The dining area and bar upstairs provided beautiful city views. We even took advantage of the onsite massage. Most of the staff speaks only French. Despite the communication struggles, they were extremely hospitable and offered amazing service, always anticipating my needs. My only regret is that we didn't have one more day to experience Fes and stay at this hotel.

We stayed at Palais Amani for two nights (March 11 and 12, 2012).

This beautiful boutique hotel was the perfect hotel for us.
I am positive it is the best hotel anyone can stay in in Fes.

The hotel is located in the Medina of Fes - the old city.
When we first arrived, which was at night time, we were a bit wary of what we were about to find, since our car didn't go inside the medina and we had to leave the car and walk through some narrow streets before arriving at Palais Amani. And from the outside, it looked like a small building on a small, old street. But once we stepped inside, we were blown away. Palais Amani is a gorgeous property. We were not expecting to find the piece of heaven it is behind those walls.

Palais Amani was a magical experience. Little touches from the wet refreshing towels and mint tea offered upon arrival to the chocolate truffles and the next day's weather put on the bed at turndown service make all the difference and makes Palais Amani stand apart from the rest - it is all in the details.

Staying at Palais Amani is experiencing pure luxury - no expense was spared to ensure the guests enjoy the utmost comfort and quality in everything - from the heavenly soft and puffy comforter and pillows to the hairdryer in the bathrooms, everything was high end.

The owner was actually there to personally make sure every guest was as happy and relaxed as could be. He is an incredible human being - it is very easy and clear to see that he cares not only about his guests, but also about his employees a great deal. He is an extraordinary person, and it was a true pleasure to meet him and stay at his fantastic hotel.

The staff of Palais Amani go above and beyond to ensure a perfect stay.
For instance, it was my mother's birthday, and the owner, the chef and the kitchen staff surprised her with a beautiful birthday cake with her name written on the plate around the cake in Arabic.

It was an unforgettable experience and we hope to be back!

Short summary:

Pro:
- Beautifully restored, architectural property
- Gorgeous terrace with chaise-lounges and views of the city
- Friendly and helpful staff
- Refreshing towels and tea upon arrival
- Luxury boutique hotel
- Attentive staff and owner who devote lots of personal attention and go above and beyond to ensure satisfaction
- Beautiful, brand new Moroccan slippers given to guests as a gift upon arrival
- Chocolate truffles and the next day's forecast left on the pillow at turndown service
- Fresh cookies also offered
- Highest quality of everything used in the rooms (from the sink to the hair dryer to the iphone dock)

Cons:
- No conditioner or tooth brush offered in the bathroom
- Massage table could be more comfortable / towel needs to be put between massage table and face

My wife and I chose this boutique hotel after reading about it in Conde Nast Traveler magazine. This riad style hotel on the eastern edge of the Fes Medina is only 3 years old and has been lovingly restored to its original splendor by its Moroccan owner Abdel. Once you enter from the small main entrance and take in the riad's beautiful courtyard for the first time, you will be treated to an experience of a lifetime.
If you are lucky you might be greeted personally by the owner Abdel, an extremely
gracious and personable man, who will after sharing mint tea and Moroccan biscuits with you, take you to your deluxe suite himself to show you all the various amenities.

We booked the standard classic suite and it was lovely. Everything was fresh and looked brand new. The Moroccan tiling and fine woodwork and accessories were impressive. The BR was top notch with the most modern finishes.

The service was that of a 5 star hotel, discreet but anticipatory. Everyone worked very hard to make sure your stay is 100% to your satisfaction. The breakfast was included in the room rate and it was wholesome and healthy. We had dinner twice in the pretty dining room. It was a fixed 3 course meal and it was excellent. There are no dining options within walking distance of the hotel, so eating in makes a lot of sense.
On the other hand, most of the important sites are withing 30 minutes walk of the riad. That being said I still recommend a guide to give you an overview of the amazing Medina on your first day there. The Riad can set that up for you at reasonable price.
All in all this is an extraordinary boutique hotel and really there is no other option to stay in Fes for my money. You will not go wrong with this choice.

Room Tip: second floor room has more light. first floor might be a bit noisy from traffic

We stayed for a long weekend and my wife who is not a keen traveller was apprehensive. No need once we entered and saw the courtyard we knew it was going to be fine. Our room was comfortable and well furnished and the bathroom a gem. We were able to enjoy the terrace since it was sunny and it was easy to find from the Medina. We are recommending this hotel to our friends.

Room Tip: We had 10 is was great.
