Riad Layalina made our large group very, very welcome. The riad is simply beautiful and the staff so utterly hospitable, charming and helpful they really make a difference.

This was the most enjoyable riad stay we have had in our many trips to Morocco. The outstanding aspect of Riad Layalina was the friendliness of the staff and their readiness to help in general. Nothing was too much effort for them. By coincidence, the owner arrived part-way through our stay. He was equally friendly, helpful and personable, with none of the officiousness that some 'bosses' tend to have in Morocco.

It's clean, quiet and comfortable with excellent views over the old medina and surrounding countryside from the rooftop. The location is good because it is easy to find and it is only three minutes (literally, when walking slowly!) to the Talaa Kbira which is one of the main old streets. At the top end of this (another slow 6 or 7 minutes) is the Blue Gate (Bab Boujloud).

We normally find our own transport at airports, but would recommend you order a taxi through the Riad (same price, currently 15 euros or 150 dirhams, and saves hassle) which will meet and greet you at the terminal and take you to within a couple of hundred yards of the Riad - where someone else will be waiting to guide you that last short distance.

In summary, we'd definitely choose the Layalina again on our next visit to Fes.

Great location - next to one of the main streets, still accessible with taxi.

We stayed 4 nights and found the place and the people great. We even turned up unexpectedly after our travel plans changed and received another warm welcome and a room for the night.

Breakfast was top, especially the cheese omlette and there was also a great range of drinks at breakfast, which was much appreciated (from fresh orange to banana milkshake and coffee and tea!).

We were also accompanied to the local bus station, which was a real service - this experience is stressful for anybody, due to the touts that decend as soon as you arrive. I recommend runing the gauntlet straight through to the buses, to see the bus you are travelling on, before buying - this is what we did. Many thanks to our guy from the riad.

Spacious and comfortable rooms and great showers.

the hotel is very close to the Medina of Fez,
the staff is veeery friendly and welcoming,
the breakfast is more than rich,
and inside the hotel there is a relaxing "oasis"
and WiFi exists and works! ;)

what I didn't like much was the room. It stank a little when we arrived, but apart from that, for the money that we paid, the hotel is GOOD i guess :)

Being in Fes was an exotic, exciting experience because the Fes Medina is a World Heritage Site, the people are so friendly, and our hotel, the Riad Layalina is right in the medina! However, without the Riad Layalina to guide us (and nurture us), Fes would not have been the magical adventure that it was. Starting with the owner's quick responses by email to anything needed (from being picked up at AP, to buying train tickets for us (on credit) before we arrived) to the open and warm hospitality of the Morrocan family that manages and staffs the Riad (from greeting us on the street when we arrived by their great transport service, having a delicious welcome meal and sweets, to seeing to our every need (toothbrush, bigger soap, more pillows, tea, coffee, hot chocolate, adapter, use of computer, breakfast every morning on our schedule, meals when we were too tired to move at the end of the day,). Additionally, when husband was too tired to walk to the souk (which was 1 block away), I was accompanied by one of the brothers, or staff members so that I wouldn't get lost or go alone). We learned so much about Moroccan values, food, and customs from this delightful family and staff, a priceless part of Morocco we could only get at Riad Layalina. They helped us in every aspect and accompanied us by taxi to the train on our departure from Fes so that we wouldn't get lost or frenzied. I can't tell you how much we appreciate and came to love Rashid, Osama, Abdul, Moona, and other staff members....Although we went on to Marrakesh and liked it very much, nothing matched our experience at Riad Layalina and Fes. We can't wait to return and will be bringing our married children next time!

Beautiful building hidden away in a very central location. Staff were so friendly and helpful and prepared the most delicious breakfasts each morning. Those baked eggs dishes with harissa - yum! Only faults were the barking dog immediately outside - he barked all night long! - and having to share a bathroom with another couple. I did hear the couple complaining to a staff member, apparently they were told they were getting a private bathroom. If my memory serves me right, the floor we stayed on had 3 bedrooms and one bathroom. In other words, I suspect if they promise a private bathroom it is probably because they aren't full. We only found this place by chance and hadn't booked. Oh also, don't expect to do any night time reading, the lighting is atmospheric but not suitable for seeing your feet.

Hello dear,

Many thanks dor your kind review.
Please let me clarify the following details :

Regarding the batheroom share, we previously had one batheroom shared by 2 bedrooms. We worked hard on this problem in october 2010 and I confirm that we offer now one bathroom for every bedroom

Regarding the dog, it has gone, so the problem is solved either.

Regarding the light we also have worked on this problem, so it can be more "confortable" at night.

Many thanks for your remarks which are very important to us and make us improve.
We do hope to welcome you again.
Jérôme

Wonderfully peaceful courtyard restored with mosaics and woodcarvings and a lovely little fountain providing a relaxing dripping water sound. The reception we received was amazing; arriving a little after lunchtime they prepared a wonderful lunch and arranged for a guide for the afternoon on short notice. We had two wonderful dinners (with wine and beer on request) at the Riad, the last one was accompanied by a Berber song and dance troupe. A delightful surprise. Our room was functional (had a flat screen TV that we did not use) with a spacious bathroom. Everything was clean and neat. Some outside noise due to proximity to Medina outer wall. The staff were a delight. Parking was literally around the corner (contributing to some of the outside noise). Would highly recommend Layalina to other travelers.
