“the wonderful 'dar sienna'”
Reviewed 15 November 2013

firstly the communication with sonhid (owner) in arranging the stay was amazing. Ahmed ( manager) at the dar is incredibly helpful and interesting to talk with. saba looks after the house and prepares breakfast( displayed in a beautiful manner) and such a warm special caring woman. The house is in the most excellent location to walk everywhere around the medina, alleyways and all the fascinating souks, and a real place to be amongst the people of fez for a real experience. We stayed on the top floor in chamber celeste which is a beautiful room with wonderful mosaic floors/comfortable bed/cedar ceiling/leather poofs to take mint tea by the large windows while viewing over the ancient medina. There are three terraces to sit with moroccan rugs/cushions /lemon trees with perfect rooftop views to take in the ancient medina whilst listening to the call to prayer/looking over the fez green tiled rooftops/mosques/smoke rising from the communial bakery while eating a beautifully prepared and tasty breakfast made by saba. what more could you ask for!The whole house is perfectly decorated with cedar doors/stucco work/mosaic floors/huge kitchen/mint for tea/coffee/spices/washing machine and perfect hosts Saba and Ahmed. I highly recommend.

Room Tip: chamber celeste is really private and best views. the middle room has an amazing huge Moroccan bath...

I agreed with all the comments about the great hospitality from the Ahmed and Sabat. The only problem is that I was assigned the room on the 1st floor which uses the downstairs bathroom. That bathroom is super tiny and smelly. You hardly have room to turn around, plus it is not very clean.
The location is very close to a well known landmark, so it is easy to ask for directions when you need help finding your way back. Be aware that the alleys in the medina are all rather dirty. You walk out of the dar and you see trash everywhere.
If you can put up with the 2 negatives, this dar is a good value. It maybe a little short on sitting areas if there are more than 1 group staying in the dar.

The people were downright amazing.
Ahmed, the manager, organized a taxi for us, and waited for us so we don't get lost in the medina. He had all the info we could possibly need, and never gave a wrong advice. He's a very smart guy, so make sure you listen to him.
Sabah kept us well fed, and met us with unparalleled kindness.
We were also lucky enough to meet Sonhild, the owner, who is an uplifting person one can talk to for hours.
They all made absolutely sure we felt right at home.
The location of the house is also remarkable. It is in the inner, sacred, area of the medina and is in the very centre of action. Marrakech medina, that we visited afterwards, paled in comparison.

All staff were extremely friendly and helpful. Amazing terrace to relax and felt very comfortable. Breakfast on the terrace was a definite highlight, fresh juice and a good supply of Moroccan tea. Highly recommend getting the airport transfers as is confusing to find in medina for the first time.

I stayed at the Riad for two nights and about a week ago and can really recommend it to anyone looking for a nice, calm place in the middle of the old Medina.

Ahmed, the host of the Riad, picked me up at the train station so that I would not get lost. And in the morning he gave me a map which was really helpful for navigating the small alleyways and he also gave me recommendations on sights to see and restaurants to visit. The Riad is also located next to one of the main sights which is helpful in the rare occasion where you do have to ask people for the way. Also, Ahmed will give you a key to the building so you can come and go as you like and don't have to worry about someone staying up late in case you have a late dinner.

The breakfast was probably the most abundant I've had during my stay in Morocco and Saba, the lady who prepares the meals, is truly lovely. Also, the view from the rooftop terrace is stunning!

One little thing which I could be improved is to mention on the internet booking sites that, although all rooms have their own bathroom, some require you to cross the corridor to reach it or take the stairs one floor down. Despite this tiny issue, I would definitely recommend the Riad and would definitely also come here again in case I returned to Fez.

Great choice if You like to experience Fes Medina life! Suggest! Wonderful view from the terrace, the best breakfast experience comparing to the rest of the trip in Morrocco. Wonderful staff - personal attitude, helpful and much more ;)

Room Tip: Also the budget room is very nice!

To stay in the middle of the medina in such a nice home was really wonderfull. My husband and I loved the place. Ahmed was really kind and helpfull and Saba was so sweet. Breakfast on the roof terrasse was a really nice moment before getting ready for the crowd of the medina.
A stay in Dar Sienne is something.
