Beautiful Riad, some part beautifully refurbished and others destroyed with plastic and cheap furniture - it failed on many levels. For 3 nights in December it cost me and my partner £650 including breakfast and dinner. The room we stayed in 'Lavender' was basic, damp and smelly. Beakfast was made of various types of breads and honey or jam, everyday the same, no fruits and terrible coffee. And dinner was bland, using cheap ingredients and very expensive (£30 a head with no alcohol served). The owner was sitting with the guests at dinner and trying to convince guests that his Riad is the best. Uncomfortable, expensive, really not worth it.

After traveling on a bus all night the owner/ master renovator, Khalid checked us in early with no charge! The delightful staff was very attentive to all of our needs! We were given a tour of the newly renovated riad and the history! Dinner was prepared every day by a hard working talented Moroccan lady, cannot say enough about how succulent both meals were! Khalid was delightful and even drove us himself to the train station! We absolutely loved this hidden gem!

We did have trouble getting there because we did not tell the taxi driver which entrance to the medina it was near. If you tell them the correct entrance you will have no problem!

Khalid set us up with an excellent tour guide! There is no way we would have been able to see everything we did if we did not have one! Make sure to do that!

We loved our stay at the Riad. The Riad itself was beautiful and has been restored with great care and the details are outstanding. Khalid was not only very accomodating - he went out of his way to make sure we had everything we needed and that our stay was memorable. The staff were wonderful and the food amazing. I would recomend the Riad borj Dhab to anyone travelling to Fes.

We stayed here on a punt as it had no proper reviews anywhere. But the pictures looked great and the 30% discount offer was too good to refuse since most Fes riads are pricey (much more than Marrakech). It turned out to be newly opened by its Moroccan owner - hence the lack of reviews. The four of us were very happy with Riad Borj Dhab and it lived up to its promise. We took two double rooms and both were quite big with all the mod cons of a 5star hotel. We had one standard and one superior room. There are also large suites which we looked at - lovely but pricey and the rooms we had were fine for us in every way.
It only just opened this summer (2010) and has been renovated to a very high standard in traditional Moroccan style. The owner-manager Khalid was very eager to help advise and organise things for us. The riad was once his grandfather's home so he was passionate about its history and restoration.
We ate dinner in the Riad twice and had delicious authentic Moroccan food (more expensive than your average Moroccan restaurant at about 30 euros each, but worth it for the quality and serenity of eating in the lovely sitting room). Khalid even organised a recital of Moroccan music on our last night. Breakfasts were really delicious with french toast, Moroccan pancakes, orange cake and bread.
The location is also excellent as it is very near one of the medina gates. This meant we could quickly access the taxis to zip around to another side of the old city or into the ville nouvelle - very useful.
