“The starters are amazing and the tagines the best we've eaten in Morocco”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 22 January 2014

There's only so many times during your visit to Morocco that you want to eat local food as eating tagine every day like many of them do gets boring but the tagines cooked here are exceptional...I have eaten them many times before but never as good as the chicken, lemon and olive one cooked here. The meat was so soft it flaked from the bone and the vegetables and sauce were mouthwatering good. The starters which were several different types of dips were also great flavours. Sweet course was a lovely thick chocolate mousse the first time and a fruit crumble the second. We finished everything on the table it was all so good. We ate here twice, the second tagine was lamb, also very tasty. If you want to eat here you need to reserve in advance. Let them know at least before 12 midday on the day you wish to eat as their tables might already be booked by staying guests of the riad and they also source their ingredients fresh every day depending on how many people are booked to eat there. Dinner is usually served from 8pm. It's a stunning courtyard to eat a meal in too, with beautiful carved and tile decorated pillars up to the second gallery landings, gorgeous tiled floors, a soaring ceiling height, palms and hanging vines...stunning and the best we saw in Morocco, They have patio heaters for the cooler months like January. The staff are attentive, kind and friendly...and very helpful with any requirements you may have. They serve alcohol. We also stayed here for 7 days in one of the suite rooms, it was a great experience.

“Great Tajine”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 22 December 2013 via mobile

We ate here for two of the three nights we stayed at the Riad (we decided to try somewhere else another night and we're hugely disappointed so went back for dinner at the Riad the last night). The food tasted beautiful and traditional (authentic). A delight.

“Yummy Starters and Lamb Tagine”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 20 December 2013

We enjoyed our three course meal in this beautiful riad in the medina. We really enjoyed our cauliflower and eggplant starters and the lamb tagine was really nice. We had a few tagines on our trip and this was our favorite - nice poached pears went with it. After our meal we were allowed to walk around the riad. It really is quite pretty and is one of the taller two story riads we saw.

“Exquisit Meals”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 13 August 2013

One of the most difficult things about staying at Riad Al Bartal is prying one's self out of the Riad to visit Fez! And one of the events I waited for all day were Fatima's nightly meals. Oh my..... Delicious, beautiful, varied, unexpected are some of my thoughts. My mouth is watering right now as I think back to her cooking!!!!! Home cooking with a depth of knowledge made each meal an adventure. And she changes it up each night so that it would be very easy to have every meal there. A highlight of staying at the Riad.
