“Excellent hotel in Fes”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 27 March 2014

I booked a room for 2 night in Fes, the location, view, room of this hotel are great and excellent!!!

And the staff and the boss very nice, when we left the hotel, they drive us to the bus station, it was so unexpected and helpful!!

I would recommend this hotel to anyone I know when they decide to travel in Marocco!!!

I found this riad very dark and for boding. The bed was like a rock, and the pillows were sour smelling and like an overstuffed sofa pillow, also rock hard. The staff were pleasant, but seemed bored. When I arrived, the floor hadn't been swept, nor had the toilet been cleaned. The location is good. The breakfast was "strange"...can a breakfast be "creepy"? Odd little industrial looking cakes, and faux orange juice, margarine. All in all a tasteless, depressing start to the day.

Well located near the Blue gate. Rooms clean and large. If you travel by car the parking it is difficult to find but less than 10min from the hotel and you can have a porter for 20 Dirham. Breakfast average. Globally good value for money.

This was probably the most disappoiting riad we stayed at during our four week journey through Morocco. Best thing about this place is that it is centrally located in the Fez medina - just 20m from one of the main streets. The staff were friendly and gave us good advice about Fez and sights. The drawbacks about this place are: First, breakfast was average with most of the food being store bought - some might say that I am being tough, but fact is that many riads will prepare and cook the entire breakfast instead of buying it from the supermarket. Most of the items on the breakfast table were in portion packs and containing mostly sugar. Disappoiting after eating so many fresh and impressive breakfast elsewhere in Morocco. Second, the bed remined me of an old gym mattress and resulted in sore backs. Third, I found an old peanut in the corner of the room when we arrived and even though the room was "cleaned" daily during our stay, the peanut remained in the corner. So cleanliness could have been better. Four, the riad and room were quite cold when we stayed there in January - so bring warm clothing if travelling during winter.

On the positive side this Riad has lovely rooms (although ageing a little), a wonderful courtyard, does a nice breakfast, and is in a good location.

On the downside the transfer from the train station costing 75 dirhams (7 Euros) is expensive. Simply hop in one of the numerous red taxis which have 'petit taxi' written on them. Insist on them using the meter - it will cost 10 dirhams, no more. Ask them to take you to the Bab Boujeloud (Blue Gate) and have the Riad meet you.

We travel a lot and sometimes use a guide to gain more of an insight and see things we wouldn't find in a guide book. Mohammed promised us an official tourist guide for 250 dirhams for half a day (Rough Guide released in April 2013). We were highly sceptical this was an official guide as a) he showed no proof b) despite booking a half day, talked about a full day c) took us to a so-called traditional house which was no more than a carpet shop where the owner got rude and aggressive when we insisted we did not want any carpet. We complained to Mohammed who said he complain to the tourist office but heard no more which just left us thinking this was never an official guide. So disappointed as you want to trust the hotel you are staying in.

Staff were friendly and very helpful, but the tour guide episode left a bad taste which together with the expensive transfer made you think they are looking to make money in other ways.
