“Best Riad in Morocco!”
Reviewed 2 November 2011

My friend and I stayed 5 nights in this very beautiful historic Riad in Fez. Everything there is pure delight from the breakfasts on the roof terrace to the wonderful candlelit evening meals around the tinkling fountain in the courtyard. The staff are exceptional and Miriam, the multi-lingual manager, was always at hand to help us with our sight-seeing plans and to give advice on practically anything. No need to worry if you prefer to speak English. Great location on edge of Medina, where there is plenty to see and explore. We also took trips out with a hired driver to visit Meknes and the wonderful Roman remains at Volubilis as well as exploring the lower Atlas towns. Everything was very reasonably priced and we returned with many treasured souvenirs and many more happy memories of the very friendly Moroccan people.

Room Tip: All rooms looked lovely but we liked Omar as it was light and airy.

This riad just a block or so outside the medina gates and is most beautiful and tastefully decordated. The hostess, Miriam is gracious and never seems to be imposed by guest requests. I would recommend staying at this riad. Having travelled Morocco by car and seeing many cities, I would recommend at least two full days in Fez, as this Imperial City has the most beautiful medina in all of Morocco.

Room Tip: I stayed in the suite that is on the main floor - very impressive.

My wife and I stayed in this stunning riad in September and absolutely loved it. We arrived a day late and they didn't charge us for the missed night. The food is great, try the lamb tagine and the chicken pastry thing, I forgot the name.
The location is right in the medina just a short stroll from the souks. The service is great, rooms are great and the decor will make you feel like a sultan!
We will be back for sure! Although next time we might skip the rest of Morocco and just spend a few days in Fes. We found it cleaner, safer and more authentic than Marrakech with more history and charm.
Our guide was also fantastic! Abdul made the trip even better because he went out of his way to take us to all of the best sites in the medina plus we paid a bit extra and took a van trip around the outskirts where you get a great view of the city. He was funny and full of energy, highly recommend hiring him for a whole day. Cost was only about 300dirhams.
Thank you Miriam and Abdul for making our trip a memorable one.

Room Tip: Stayed in the room downstairs with high ceilings. It was just perfect.

Riad Dar Guennoun is a beautiful guest house in Fes. The home, which had been in the family for generations, was recently refurbished and redecorated in quintessential Moroccan style. The courtyard has such a beautiful atmosphere, especially in the evenings when the candles are lit, and wifi! Abdul and Miriam are charming and attentive proprietors who were willing to help with any request. They arranged an excellent guide to show us through the medina on our first day and made sure we had a lovely dinner every night. Very nice place!

Exquisite food, charming décor and an attention to detail and customer service are the hallmarks of Riad Dar Guennoun, located on the upper edge of the Fez medina. Owner and proprietors Abdul and his charming daughter Miriam attend to every guest, down to a rosewater hand rinse as we arrived. The rooms are delightfully decorated in the style of Morocco. The dining was the best we had; don’t miss the meat tagine, in the sweet style and the Moroccan salad. Miriam recommend a guide, Muhammad, (MoMo for short) one the treasures of the Fez Medina.

Room Tip: Rooms are named after the family members, I stayed in Omar (son of Abdul) and it was wonderful.

Myself and a friend stayed here for 1 night near the beginning of August. Each of our rooms were very comfortable - nice shower, very nice decor - superb! We especially liked the interior decor of the riad and the roof terrace! We also found the host friendly and welcoming. We would recommend this riad if staying in Fes.

If your heading to Fes look no further than The Riad Dar Guennoun. Deisigned and run by the Guennoun family who great you with a smile and welcome you into their beautiful Riad. Abdul and his daughter Miriam took care of all our needs. The rooms are beautiful and comfortable, the food was out of this world and they provided us with surely the best guide, Momo, in Fes. Once here our whole trip fell into place. If you want the best don't miss out on this one.
