“Not the best”
Reviewed 28 February 2012 for a stay in February 2012

I stayed at Dar Mystere for 3 nights. We arrived mid afternoon and the Riad was really cold and we could not get it warmed through out our stay. We stayed in our rooms with the doors closed even though we had booked the whole Riad. the manager was not helpful and even suggested that I go out to buy tea and sugar when I told him there were none. Unfortunately this is the first time I have had to write a negative review but feel i have to as the Riad certainly was not up to the standard we expected.

Management Response

Thank you for your feedback. The guests were informed well in advance of their stay that traditional Moroccan houses are not heated and that Fez had experienced a very cold snap. We do have new oil filled electric heaters in each bedroom but it was made clear that the large patio area of the house (traditionally open to the elements, but fitted with a sliding cover) is virtually impossible to heat.

Dar Mystere is rented as a self catering property and as such no supplies are provided. We are very sorry that our managers responses were deemed unhelpful.

We take negative feedback very seriously and will, of course be considering strategies to avoid this in the future.

“Out of this world”
Reviewed 5 October 2011 for a stay in September 2011

For a deeply relaxing almost life changing experience, I highly recommend this place. For a solo traveler, seeking peace and quiet for reflection in a tasteful and comfortable setting while having a magical world with beautiful people at your doorstep. Go there with an open mind and open heart and you will be rewarded was a unique travel experience.
On the practical side, the showers were excellent, linen and towels provided were very clean. More attention need to be paid to watering the plants in the court yard which are dying and the Kitchen is really lacking in equipments, although eating out in Fez, particularly street food is an experience in itself. Plenty of small stores selling croissant and all sorts of food are one minute walk from your door. The manager Mr Alami was very helpful and attentive when needed. A cleaning lady was also very nice, but it would be nice to stock the house with some cleaning tools as well. All in all this was a great experience and I am considering buying a house there myself.

“WOW, is what I thought as I walked throught the front door”
Reviewed 1 June 2011 for a stay in January 2011

From being picked up at the airport to being dropped off, our stay in this beautifully restored Riad in the Medina area was an experience you wont forget.
Very friendly and helpful manager was only ever a phone call away and always had good tips and advice.
Spices, foods, crafts and overwhelming sites are what you will see in the labyrinth of alleyways in this medievil part of the city, it's like stepping back in time.
When I return to Fez in the future I would definately like to stay in this property again.

Management Response
