Description: The Fez Café is a charming Moroccan bistro set at the edge of our vast garden and topped by an immense rooftop terrace - perfect for a dinner under the stars. Under the careful guidance of Michel Biehn himself, a Provencal food connoisseur with three award-winning cook books to his name, our chef at the Fez Cafe crafts a market-fresh menu every day which draws its flavours from the Morocan tradition, the East, and the home-grown organic vegetables from our own garden. We only use fresh seasonal ingredients. Our bar and Foosball table help make it a fun Medina meeting place. Open everyday for lunch, and dinner. Michel Biehn is the author of several award-winning cookbooks published in France, Europe and the United States. For a few hours or a few days, Michel Biehn, aided by his wonderful Chef Hicham, the head chef of the FEZ CAFE, will be happy to share with their guests, their oriental recipies and secrets of Moroccan cuisine. The cooking class starts by shopping on the market with Si Mohamed, followed by the actual cooking of the selected recipies with both Michel and Hicham. Then, it will be time to enjoy the prepared meal. Price:80 € per person.

In Fes for 10 days for the Sacred Music Festival, tagines and couscous get very old and it is iffy whether salads are safe, given the water contamination and poor hygiene at many restaurants. Our British friends suggested Jardin Des Biehn. It was very challenging to find, and we almost gave up, but a local Fassi workman, with a wheelbarrow in tow, patiently led us to the front door. Near the entrance is a fascinating small gourd museum. We traversed a lovely garden, but there was no downstairs seating, so we were led to the terrace- tranquil and private. Our friend is quite a foodie, so we ended up ordering considerably more than we would have ourselves, and, in the spirit of reconnecting and good company, we didn't pay attention to the prices. Our own fault, but it let to a shock at the end of the meal. We began by ordering two bruschettas with diced tomatoes and Serrano ham, which were exceptional. Two of us shared the rolled sole with eggplant and ratatouille and mashed squash dish and another veggie entree. My husband loved his chicken curry salad and our friend, John, absolutely loved his chicken in a velvety bernaise-like sauce. They really know how to cook here and the presentations were beautiful. We had a total of 3 beers and a large bottle of mineral water and shared the cherry clafoutis dessert with ice cream (quite nice). When the bill arrived, we divided it in half and were floored to find that it was US$160 for the four of us ($80 per couple). Our friends were apologetic that the meal broke the bank, so expect to pay a premium for the wonderful food and peaceful atmosphere. We made up for it by saving breakfast for lunch the next day!

Don't miss this great restaurant. Not the cheapest but delicious food, tasty local wine and the most incredible garden.

We went to the cafe for drinks and wanted to stay for dinner. We looked at the website and it stated they would create vegetarian options for you, yet when we arrived and asked, they did not oblige. We had a few drinks but left hungry as it was late and did not want to spend time wandering the medina at night. They were apologetic but unyielding. Too bad because the food smelled and looked great.
