For the first time, i got scared with medina with tiny crazy streets. Dar el ghalia provides a kind help of staff which came to us in train station.
Rooms r good but little dark, no problem for old traditional palace.
Ahmed always contacted official guides for us, and let us in safe. Sweety Mustafa and Alamin made us feel like family. I miss them. Cook available, good food on time, the way we want, anytime. Me, my mother and friend really thanks for staff. I recommend. Samia

Although this riad is on the pricier end of what you can find in Fes, you definitely get what you pay for. The building is absolutely beautiful, and the staff are very friendly. The view of the old town from the rooftop patio is amazing (I wish we had stayed longer just to enjoy this view more). Breakfast was good, although their promise to provide a gluten free option was not fulfilled. Staying in the Medina is a bit of an adventure, as well, and can be trying. Don't make the mistake of showing up after dark - it can make finding the hotel in the maze a bit intimidating.

The hotel is incredibly lovely - it was a former palace and has retained 100% of its charm. The room had a seating area with a fireplace and TV in addition to the bedroom. The lobby/patio is a lovely spot to relax after a busy, hot day. The tinkling fountain soothes your cares away. When you first arrive, it smells a bit musty, but the ambience and reasonable price more than make up for that.

If you arrive by train, you can call the hotel and request a pickup. This is a 5x the cost of taking a petite taxi, but it would be difficult to find your way without a guide the first time, even tho it's well sign-posted when you get close.

We stayed here in October, and it was such a lovely place. Authentic decor combined with modern comforts. Fantastic food. The bed was the most comfortable we encountered in Morocco. We enjoyed the medina location, and after a day it was quite easy to find on our own. The views from the rooftop terrace are lovely, and the entire riad is so peaceful you would never know you were in the middle of bustling city. We would definitely return for another visit.

We spent 4 nights here in April. For me it seemed like the authentic riad experience. Decorated with a mulittude of different objects it had a living museum feel about it. One day it rained we had the pleasure of not leaving Dar El Ghalia, instead we enjoyed the place itself. It is positioned well into the medina and takes a few trys to navigate out, although the staff will guide you out and for money someone will take you back. We loved the experience of the winding lanes and felt it is part of Moroccan travel. We ate in when we could and thought the food excellent, the restaurant is well known for its Moroccan cuisine.. Staff helpful and professional. Our room was upgraded to a larger ones, I think because we were there for four days. While in Fes we visited Volubilis, we caught the train to Meknes then a taxi to the ruins, easy to do. Train and taxi travel was cheap and quick. We did get used to negotiating with taxi drivers. Another good trip was to a pottery works in Fes,there are several, we went to Art Naji, caught a taxi and had a private tour, very interesting, and free. We did buy some pottery and had it sent home, it seemed expensive at the time but probably the best way to get tagines etc all arrived back in Australia unbroken, wish we had bought more.
