“An oasis of peace in the Medina.”
Reviewed 24 February 2012

Located on the edge of the medina, this property is just far enough to be quiet and just close enough to be accessible to the Medina. French is not a must but it helps as Pierre speaks impeccable English and the staff is attentive to a travelers every need. Dinners should be enjoyed on the rooftop, overlooking the Medina lights and poolside in the garden is a lush haven where one can enjoy a cup of chai. The nearby access to parking means this location is perfect for a small group of independent friends looking to enjoy a unique experience in a mysterious location.

We had a lovely stay in Mabrouka: very nice Ryad bording the medina, easy access, wonderful hosts. The building is worth seeing, great and genuine atmosphere. But you'd better try to live in! You will enjoy the local way of life, the design and decoration of the Ryad, the efficient but easy service. Your hosts really know Fes and the country: do not hesitate to ask them for tips, they are helpfull.
Pleasant garden, pool, nice food

Great property and welcoming hosts (even though we didn't speak French). Loved the rooftop for a beer or some mint tea in the evenings. Perfect location for exploring the Fez medina.

Our bathroom was huge. The furniture in our room was beautiful as was the whole property. I would stay here again!

It was our first time in Morocco and the Ryad was all that we had expected. It is hidden away down a winding alley in the Medina and from the outside looks nothing special - but this is the charm of the Ryads - they conceal their beauty until you get inside the front door. Our room was on the ground floor and was big with a comfy bed and, just as importantly as it was very hot, equiped with an efficient air con unit.

We ate dinner at the Ryad on 3 out of the 4 nights we spent there and the food was good with the starters being especially tasty however, the main course became a bit predictable after a couple of nights with the only excitement being - would it be a lamb, chicken or beef tagine - in short - good food if a little monotonous. And much to our surprise we didn't get couscous once - I thought this would have been served with the tagine - but that's obviously not the authentic Moroccan way.

We had a guide which had been arranged by the Travel company and he was very good - the streets of the Medina in Fez are a maze and I have no idea how we would have found our way around without him.

We visited the tanneries - not as smelly as I had been expecting - maybe we were just lucky! We also visited the Carpet Co-operative where we experienced the best salesman we have seen in a long time - if I had been even vaguely interested in buying a rug I probably would have succumbed. We also visited a pottery/ceramics manufacturer where I did buy a couple of items. I think you just need to be aware that when you get the offer to go and see where/how things are made - such as carpets, pottery, scarfs etc, you will get a small amount of information but the real reason you are there is as a potential customer and you will be subjected to the full sales treatment. There is no undue pressure to buy but that is obviously the main aim of the visit.

The Ryad Mabrouka was everything that we had hoped it would be. It was historic and beautiful, our room was lovely, and the two dinners that we had there were absolutely delicious. The owners are French and the staff is Moroccan--which was a perfect combination. When my husband and I were there last spring, we really enjoyed the time we spent with one of the French owners. She explained the history of the building as well as the massive restoration process which her family supervised. She also gave us a tour of the entire facility. We would love to return someday. We highly recommend this clean and well run ryad.

I loved this hotel for the lovely staff and amazing dishes prepared by the chef but also for its beauty. The mosaics on the tables, floors and walls are beautiful. all the doors of the rooms are ancient large and very high doors. The rooms have very high ceilings which adds to the beauty of the place and all furniture are of local design.
The terrace offers a wonderful view on magnificent Fes. Ask for a mint tea while you see the colours changing from bright yellow, to orange, red, ... as the sun goes down.
The staff were very nice and helpful. They sell guides of Fes as well which were very useful as it's very easy to get lost in the tiny streets.
Congratulations to the French owners who bought ruins and created a palace.
The only thing would be that as we were in a room on the ground floor, we were waken up quite early from the noise is the patio.
Otherwise we had a wonderful stay! and would highly recommend

Room Tip: Ask for a room at 1st or 2nd floor

This is a fantastic place to spend a few days in.
We spent here 4 days at the end of July. We got the room Medersa whose only issue was the stinky loo...but this is due to the Moroccan poor quality of the hydraulics.
The room as very big and beautifully decorated in traditional moroccan style. There was a pool which we used extensively, and a nice garden where we were served breakfast and dinner.
The staff is lovely. Unfortunately we got sick during our stay and they looked after us in a very caring way. The owner of the Riad called the doctor who arrived in the speedy time of 20 min.
Dinners were amazing, we had a different tagine every night and the staff was very lovely and caring all the time.
The riad is 2 min walk from the Medina and very close to local restaurants and cafes. The staff also organized a day trip for us and we fould our guide very competent and sweet.
Very good value, and an amazing place! Strongly recommended!
