“A delicious respite in the heart of the Fes Medina”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 22 June 2014

During our visit to the Fes Medina, we had lunch at La Medina. The building is a large magnificently restored Riad. The ceilings are high and exquisitely decorated as were the walls. The staff were welcoming and attentive and the service was very good.

We started out with a variety of cooked vegetables (lentils, white beans, eggplant, carrots, etc.) and moroccan bread. We then had our choice of entree; I had the tagine with couscous, lamb and vegetables. My wife had the tagine which was comprised of couscous with vegetables both were very good. Dessert was a fruit plate of fresh melon and apricots. The meal ended with the traditional glass of Moroccan mint tea.

This is a convenient location not far from the Chouara Tannerie and was a great place to stop for lunch as we made our way through the Fes Medina.

“Setting inside the Medina in a restored Riad”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 24 July 2013

Nice decor, service was good as was the food. We were with a group and we were only given menus with set meals. No ala carte or other choices. We were there for lunch after touring the Medina. Far to much food and not cheap each bill was about 35 usd. Would have liked more choice and maybe smaller portions. Seems to be a favorite of tour groups.

“Value for money within the Medina”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 8 July 2013

We were planning only 2 nights in Fes on a trip around Morocco and somehow ended up with a guide who took us to this place for lunch. We had asked for another venue by name but he said trust me - he knew all the places... so rather than try and navigate the warren that is Fes, and we were hungry, we went here. The restaurant itself is inside a wildly mosiac room which was obviously once a big family home. The decor is almost overwhelming. The service was okay and the food quite good too. Friends said everywhere you go they'll have tagines and no surprise these starred on the limited menu here. However, the mixed entree was colourful, flavoursome and very well presented. The Moroccan wine was a surprise too as they have an emerging domestic industry. Some of the reds from around Meknes are better than good. Initially we felt we had been steered into a place for tourists by the guide, however the quality and flavoursome food overcame any concerns. Especially refreshing was the cinnamon and freshly slices orange at the end of the meal. Even if we recommended this place it might be hard to find in the smell, narrow, filthy walkways that make up Fes, but if you happened to stumble across it, the food is cheap and good value.
