“charming, exotic, beautiful- simply wonderful”
Reviewed 29 June 2010

Riad Fez was a wonderful find. At first try the Riad was booked and we could not acquire a room, but being persistent proved to be a plus and we were able to secure a beautiful suite with a loft for our daughter, and a roof garden at Riad Fez.
Mind you, it is a very hard Riad to find. You really do need a guide to guide you through the small alley ways or else you will not find the hotel, least your way. What's on the outside can not be compared to what you will find inside the doors. A beautiful and very special place. A palace with no detail left undone. Staff very helpful. Food, very good. Evenings at the Riad are simply romantic sitting by the reflecting pool with the lanterns lit filled with candles and sharing dinner with a special someone.

This is the place to stay in Fez. A trek to the souks and the main tourist areas, but well worth the long walk.

This is a great Riad, the best one I have stayed in. I stayed here for 4 days with my partner and mother. The location is great, you just come out the riad and you are in the souks. You can also appreciate the great location from the terrace where you admire the mountains and this historic city. The hotel itself is beautiful. In fact it is so beautiful that you may just want to stay inside and spend the entire day there.
If you are going to Fez, you should stay here. In Fez and in Riad Fes you will forget that you live in the 21st Century.

This place has to be the nicest in Fes. The architecture is stunning. There are great views from the terrace. The pool is charming.

The service was uniformly superb.

The hammam was awesome - worth the price!

The food was a bit underwheing but satisfying and a decent value.

Overall, magnificent!

Riad Fes is not our favorite hotel, although the people could not have been nicer and the lobby is truly spectacular – you feel transported back in time. The Riad is just oddly configured so there are only a few really good rooms that are private, quiet, and have windows that open to an area other than the inner courtyard – which is where the hotel bar is.

If you are there for more than one night, be sure to spend the extra money to get a junior suite as they are the only rooms with showers. The others only have tubs with hand held showerheads.

Be aware (we traveled with another couple and both of our bathrooms flooded when using the shower) that the shower drains can’t handle the water and flooding is almost a certainty. We also saw a German woman complaining the same thing happened to her. I suspect it’s universal at this hotel.

The breakfast was okay, but nothing special. I was surprised A & K used this hotel as we were told by our guide it is not the best in Fes.

Riad Fes is just fine, but we were told there is better.

Dear Sirs,
Thank you very much for staying with us and also for taking the time to give us your feedback. We are deeply sorry that you find us fine but not great. Riad Fes is very known for its restaurant, it is said to be one of the best tables in Fez. Our breakfast is a buffet and we have a staff coming every day at 6am to prepare it. All our products are fresh and daily home made. We have in our buffet: 5 different fresh and natural juices we change up to the season. Orange, beet, milk with almonds, carrot, cucumber juices were proposed during your stay. Bananas, fresh strawberries, sliced oranges, apples, sliced tomatoes and cucumber , dates, figs, dry raisins, nuts, dry apricots, plain cornflakes, muesli, Fresh bred, some varieties of Moroccan pastries (Moroccan pancakes, beignets, “melawi”, harcha, baghrir, etc), French toasts, brioches, toasts, brioches with green and red pepper, french cheese, Moroccan cheese, butter, cold milk, water, honey, olive oil, Marmalades: fig, orange, strawberry. A menu is put on every table proposing our hot drinks and foods like: plain omelette, bacon or ham omelette, fassi omelette, boiled eggs, scrambled eggs, harira soup, coffee, expresso, coffee with milk, cappuccino, tea, mint tea, tea with lemon, Earl grey tea, English breakfast tea. Nevertheless, we will do our best to improve the breakfast and make it special. Concerning the room, the bathroom has two sinks, one bidet, toilet and a bathtub. The bidet and the toilet are separate to the bathtub and the sinks. The bathtub is 1.3 m *1.3m. The door is about 75 cms. If the guests forget to press on the drain, it is normal that the bathroom will be floaded. That is usually what happens. Please, note that our guesthouse was built in 1943 and was not meant to be a hotel. We made our best to provide the comfort and modernity we can to make our guests feel at ease. We asked to all the travel agencies to warn their guests that a Riad is not a Standard hotel; it is a traditional Moroccan house and that makes its originality and authenticity. We are always improving our services and also the building. That is why we are very keen on guests' feedbacks. Once again, we are deeply sorry for all the inconvenience and hope that we will have the opportunity to welcome you next time at Riad Fès – Relais & Chateaux.
Best Regards
Mrs. Awa DIAKHATE

We were booked here though Kensington and could not be more pleased with the Raid Fez. We were welcomed and shown to a delightful rooftop room with a view of all of Fez.

A delighful hidden location with super public rooms and great suites a lovely bar and super Maroccan restaurant. The only disappointment was the plunge pool which is minute and obviously not in use in April, having not been cleaned out. Our room Ziat was comfortable but the bathroom was a strange shape and the bath leaked badly, also the sinks behind the doors were hard to use
The beauty of the property and the oasis of calm within the myriad of alleys that make up Fes medina is amazing
I would thoroughly recommend

We paid about US$175 equivalent and I think this place would be US$500 anywhere in Europe. When we walked into the riad the first time, our jaws were on the floor. It was a real treat to stay here. Location was perfect, right in the midst of everything. Sunset drinks on the roof terrace were great. We had a great dinner in the restaurant, definitely recommend that at least 1 night. Truly a luxury experience but at a very reasonable price. Oh, and the bar area was a very trendy and slick and relaxing place (I know it's hard to combined trendy, slick and relaxing but they accomplish it). I think only the super high end traveler would not be impressed by this place. I've stayed in the Dorchester in London and the Crillon in Paris, and I still think this might be my best hotel experience. Without question the best value for money I have received at a hotel.
