“elegant Riad in Fez, Morocco”
Reviewed 22 August 2014

This is an elegant, beautifully restored building, extremely comfortable. Owner and staff were lovely. Our dinner was served on the roof (meaning each course had to be brought up three floors of stairs by the very gracious staff) where we enjoyed not only an excellent meal but a beautiful evening looking over the Medina and hearing the sounds of the city. Highly recommend and would go back in an instant.

Good service, great service, excellent service! We stayed in Riad for two weeks in Dec-Jan'14 (extended our stay by several days). It is an excellent place to stay not only to explore Fes, but a good base for making all kinds of trips around the city and even all the way to Sahara. Sakina, the Riad owner, is an excellent manager, travel coordinator, guide, and cook! She was always available, and even helped us out when we got a bit sick. Sakina helped us to organize our trip in a very effective way so that we could combine sightseeing with some "take it easy" days. Usually, local excursions include multiple (of often pushy) sales pitches. It was not the case for the trips organized by her. Yes, we were taken to some "shopping places", but there was no any pressure to buy anything and all those place were interesting to visit. I am sure that there are cheaper ways to organize sightseeing, but, as always, you get what you paid for, so my suggestion would be to ask Sakina for help. Location is very convenient - the Riad is very close to both Ols and New cities. Red taxies are within a 3 min walk and they can take you pretty much anywhere for less than $2 one way. We dined every night at the hotel and the food was good and we had variety of new dishes to try. Riad has a liquor license, which is very handy, as it is not that easy to buy vine in Fes. There are five rooms. All of them are different. We staid in two of them. One, Tarbe, is more "official" with appr. 3 m ceilings, the second, "Warda", is cozier. Both of them were clean and had all the amenities needed. Hotel crew is small but also very helpful. Malik, de facto Riad's manager, is excellent. The only area that might need some improvement is breakfast - it was pretty much the same every day and limited to Moroccan pastries. So you may need ask Malik in case you would like anything else. He would be happy to help, but only after 8 a.m., when local shops are open. Overall, we had a great time at Riad, and can recommend it to anyone. Thank you, Riad Zamane!

Room Tip: Look at the riad website - all rooms are very different.

We spent 4 nights at this beautiful Riad. We stayed in the Tarbe room (the red one)...it's large with a spacious bathroom. The heater worked well. Windows overlook the courtyard. Breakfast was good...bread, pastries, yogurt. We ate 2 dinners here and both were very good. It's a good location to walk to the medina (which is huge & as confusing as what you read). Our guide for the first day was booked by the Riad and was good. Warm service and a very nice room equal a great stay.

We loved our stay at Riad Zamane and wished we could have stayed longer. Sakina is an warm and gracious hostess and her staff was absolutely wonderful in every way, showing us a glimpse for the kindness and hospitality of the Moroccan people we encountered throughout our trip. We stayed in Riad Zamane for 3 nights and had booked the cheapest room but was upgraded on arrival. Sakina is also an amazing cook and we had the best couscous and chocolate mousse cake in all of Morocco here. If you stay here, you must make sure to book a dinner in the riad. We also spent one night in Riad Fes, a much more elaborate and expensive hotel, but without the warmth of the staff at Riad Zamane which made all the difference.

We had booked the cheapest room in this riad through a booking agency but when we arrived the lovely host Sakina offered us a more spacious and luxurious room. Everything about the room and the common areas was very moroccan and very gorgeous and we were immediately captivated. We extended our stay to 6 days, including a day trip into the surrounding countryside arranged by Sakina, and we loved every minute. We celebrated our arrival by dining inhouse on wonderful home cooked moroccan food and a very nice local chardonnay, served by delightful staff in the most romantic courtyard setting imaginable. Breakfasts in the courtyard and mint tea on the terrace watching the sun set over Fez were highlights of each day. Extra friendly and helpful advice from Sakina and the staff sent us out each day with ideas and information to maximise our experience of this wonderful city, and helped us arrange our onward journey to explore other parts of morocco. An all round magical experience.

After spending 3 amazing days in the Atlas Mtns my friends & i returned to our Riad Alma in Marrakesh, only to realise we didn't have accomm sorted for our next city. Riad Zamane was recommended by Riad Alma's manager Martine, & we were not disappointed. we were warmly greeted by the owner (sorry forgot her name), & she was wonderful, as was Abdul who carried our bags up umpteen stairs & looked after us so well, delivering drinks etc & spoke perfect English..the one thing i grew to love was Mint tea which was served upon arrival & any other time it was requested. The owner was so lovely she even gave me her teapot handle cosy as i fell in love with it & was leaving when i spotted it & had no time to enter the souks to buy one. i offered to buy but she just gave it...thank you Riad Zamane for your warm embrace, palatial surrounds & helpfulness in acquiring our next accommodation in Chefchouen...Riad Zamane 10/10 HIGHLY RECOMMENDED

Room Tip: There was 8 of us travelling, 4 couples in total, and we all had a look at the 4 rooms & i would...

I stayed at Riad Zamane for 3 weeks while I was doing an Arabic course at the Arabic Language Institute in Fez. I could not have chosen a better place to stay. Perfectly located at the beginning of the Medina, the Riad has been beautifully renovated and each room has its own charm. But Riad Zamane's biggest asset is certainly its owner, Sakina, who made my stay not only extremely pleasant, she also became a friend. Her warmth and respectful way of dealing with her clients makes her a wonderful hostess. In addition, she is a wonderful cook and the only silver lining that my stay had was probably for her that I was not good enough of an eater. She would spoil me with 4 courses and I just could not finish it all :-). I look forward to visiting Sakina and Riad Zamane again.
