The negative reviews of this pleasant hotel are unjustified. We were prepared for a run down hotel having read the previous reviews but it was a surprise to find a good hotel with all the facilities required.
The rooms were clean and well equiped with toiletries and the bedding was very clean. The air conditioning and the refrigerator was in good working order. The room we were allocated was at the back of the hotel so it was quite and we didn't hear any traffic.
The food was freshly cooked and provided good selection, especially for vegetarians. The buffet presentation was very good better than some 5 star hotels!
We found the staff helpful and eager to please. The service efficient. The barman who served us gave everyone sweets before taking an order, a simple yet a personal touch makes all the difference.
On our last night we had a Moroccan meal with music and a singer which provided a perfect ending to our time in Fes.
This hotel is good value hotel, centrally located for the main tourist attractions. We will definitely stay here again.Sour grapes from some of the previous reviews, no doubt.

Room Tip: Choose one at the back, 5th and 6th floors are good

We were part of a tour group like the last two reviewers and we too had a most pleasant surprise after all the negative reviews we had read We also went prepared for the worst whereas in fact we had a great time as the hotel staff could not be faulted . The rooms and hotel foyer were clean and well furnished The food was fresh and nicely presented on the buffet and breakfasts were good

.On the last night we had a special meal in the Moroccan restaurant and again this was very nicely served .The singer and the music were very atmospheric and the staff were doing everything possible to give us a good time. The barman who served us in the lounge was charming and always gave us a sweet with the drink a very nice touch
Wifi was free everywhere a real perk when you think what this usually costs. Fez is an amazing city and we will definitely return and be more than happy to stay at this hotel again. I agree with the previous reviewers that in Europe this would probably be a very good three star hotel .Excellent value for money I really don't know where the negative reviewers were staying !

Room Tip: Back room was quiet and we were high up on the fifth floor .

Just returned from 4 nights in this hotel, and I am surprised by some previous ratings of this hotel, yes the building is probably from the eightes, but the staff could not have helped more,
My room was much better than people here seem to think, clean, good size, and had all the facilities that you would need.
Dining, again very good, more than enough for breakfast and dinner, everything was fresh and well cooked.
So is it 4 star, by European standards probably a very good 3 star , I have paid much more and got a lot less value.
Would I go back, yes.

We have just returned from a 5 day trip to Morocco where we spend 4 nights at the Hotel Sofia Fez. After reading all the adverse reviews of this hotel we went there with great trepidation, we packed our own toilet paper, took our own towels and plenty of snack to keep us going.
However on arrival we found all these adverse comments to be unfounded. We were allocated a large comfortable double room at the front of the hotel, it was well decorated the air-conditioning was efficient, the bed was comfortable with sparkling white clean sheets. An added bonus of a refrigerator in the room to keep drinks cool. Albeit rather dated the Bathroom was large clean and white towels and basic toiletries were supplied on a daily basis. The room was serviced daily to a high standard
As we were part of an organised coach trip we were at the hotel on a half board basis. Breakfast each day was Buffet style and with plenty of Bread, Cheese, croissants, salad, tea, coffee and juice available. The evening meal was also of Buffet style, there was always Soup, a good variety of Salads and a choice of 2 hot main courses (one fish and one meat) as well a choice of 2 deserts all of which was of an acceptable standard.
The Hotel had a Bar which we found to be a little smoky and noisy however the staff were more than happy to serve drinks on the quieter lounge area which was comfortably furnished to a high standard.
All staff we encountered in the hotel were pleasant and eager to please.
This hotel has a 4 star (Moroccan) rating, whilst it may not achieve this rating in Europe it would certainly achieve a high end 3 star rating. Would be stay at the Hotel Sofia in Fez again? Most Certainly.

Simply decorated and old. Hotel needs overall renovation. Bedsheets did not appear to have been changed but the rest of the room seemed clean. Water pressure and temperature of the shower wate was good. Breakfast buffet did not have much of a variety but was acceptable.

Pleasant interior in the entrance and very unwelcom staff. Room was ok but everything was looking very old, air conditioner didn’t work. The bathroom was nice and clean with bath-tube, but the towels were old and dirty. The toilet was in the bathroom and separated by sliding door which was better to not try if you wont to stuck inside, very tiny and was very difficult to sit properly on the toilet because the bidet was just in front of it less than 10 cm.
Dinner was ok but for all kind of beverages you should pay extra even for water and the breakfast was really poor, the only good thing was that in the morning there was a woman who prepared just right on the moment Moroccan’s “hleb“ – traditional flatbread, very delicious when is hot and crispy and butter smells… The other good point about the hotel definitely is location - in the heart of the town, main street will lead you for less than half an hour by foot to the old town and in the new you’re in a nice area with lots of restaurants, cafes, shops… and you’ve got free WiFi with good speed in the room.

After being in Casablanca in a 4 stars hotel, this one should be rated 2 (or even 1,5). Bad quality beds, old fashioned bathrooms. I've been in hostels much better than this place.

Not a great breakfast. I requested some extra fruits and vegetables that were supplied right away. However, the maitre ran after me to get his tip for bringing what I demanded. No wifi in the rooms. Only in the lobby.

Room Tip: Perhaps a room in the 6th floor. They are a little bit nicer and bigger.
