“Why You Do This!?”
Reviewed 10 October 2007

First of all, te hotel looks way way better in the pictures then in real life.
Arrived exhausted at the hotel and was told we could not have a room because the previous person had not checked out yet! not a good start.
We were given a room in the basement, word of advise, do not get one of these rooms! if you must, don't open the window because a it stinks outside and b - they have intermittent fan/generators outside that make a right old racket.
Be prepared to be woken up by people praying and very loud/rude french people around 6am.
There is a young waiter works there called rusheed, he will ask you if you want a faux) guide to take you round the medina for 150 dh, you could do worse - there all part of what they call the "mafia".
Going to the medina is an experience, every time i went there i was barely out of the cab and i had been approached by someone wanting to show me around. Basically there scam is this, they get commission for taking you to a tannery - leather factory etc, it's the same with people offering you mint tea etc, they all want something from you, as sad as it sounds.

Stayed October 2007

Arrived back from a very dissapointing 5 day, there is virtually NOTHING to do in Fez except shop in the tacky souk, eat and drink and it is sadly not geared up for tourism at all. No trips or things available, no entertainment at night, and little to see or do worth mentioning unless your into pretty stone gateways. Weather is hit or miss too so make sure you check out the weather before you book, cos without the sun its a depressing place. Fez Inn VERY dissapointing the picture showed a fab pool, we arrived it was cloudy, building works going around the area, the building pictured behind it is deceiving as it does not even belong to the hotel. Hotel is a taxi ride away from anywhere or a very long 30-40min walk, we were allocated 2 dark basement rooms overlooking a wall which smelt musky, hotel full of french, breakfast consists of one choice of bread, cake, crossiant, only marmalde/butter no eggs or anything else very plain and stewed tea. Nothing to do in the hotel, no trips offered. On the positive beds were clean, towels clean but greyish and the staff were friendly there was also a small bar. We were ALL ill with sickness and toileting problems for 90% of our stay despite eating in 3-4 star restuarants and different foods too. Im well travlled incl.far east and egypt and never encountered such stomach problems so beware what and where you eat. Fes has some lovely people but as I said Fes is virtually not geared up and ready for any tourism and we found it dissapointing with nothing much to do during the day and absolutely nothing at night either.

  • Liked — Nice bed and clean sheets
  • Disliked — smell in room, poor brekfast, long way from anything
