Hotel Fes Inn - Sodetel

I stayed 5nights there in June 2013, for a forum with the young people of Fez.
At first I was a little bit scared to be at this hotel, because of the reviews I saw on internet but then I was really enchanted.
The staff was really gentle with us and answered to all of our questions and requests. Our room was clean and really cute, with a nice bathtub and a very comfortable bed. The pool is very nice, and the bar around it too.
I really enjoyed staying there and if I'll come back to Fez one day, I think I'll take a room there again.
The only negative points are that the WiFi is only availble at the reception, and maybe the breakfirst who doesn't really have many choises.

We stayed 3 nights there in May 2103 as part of a Peregrine Adventure tour. It looked promising as we checked in, as the foyer is in a very attractive Moorish style. Unfortunately, it was downhill from there.

Our room was a reasonable size, but the bathroom was absolutely pokey. On seeing that there was no drinking glass provided, we went downstairs to ask for one at reception. We were then subjected to the rudest, most arrogant display I have ever experienced in a hotel. No, they couldn't provide a glass, perhaps try the bar. Which we did, only to be told that they don't supply guests with glasses, perhaps try the restaurant (which didn't open for another hour). So it was back to the receptionist who, with much eye rolling, sent a maid up to our room. She arrived a little while later, without a glass. We explained the situation to her, whereupon she turned around and left, never to be seen again. (The situation was resolved later when our tour guide spoke to the reception.)

WiFi is provided in the foyer, but it is a hit and miss affair. You have to try several seats to find one in a sweet spot for it to work. That's when they remember to turn it on.

If you are a couple, don't bother asking for a second room key, they don't provide such a service, it's your responsibility to plan your movements in advance.

Perhaps the above sounds petty, but everyone in our group had similar issues, from air conditioners that didn't work to broken toilet seats. We were made to feel very unwelcome, and they seemed to think that they were doing us a favour by letting us stay there. The standard of customer service was simply appalling.

My advice... look elsewhere.

This was the worst hotel during our trip in Morocco 2013. Brutal high price (in Morocco, you can find a much smaller price for much better prices). This is a significant unusual Moroccan hotel. Came to me as a college student and not a hotel. Not at all close to the center of the old city of Medina. It is necessary taxi ride or drive at least 15 minutes. The highlight was the quality of the breakfast and the impossibility of paying by credit card. Hotel has very poor staff at the reception (dont speak english). The hotel pool was across the street (you have to go through the streets in bikinis in an Islamic country ...), do not offer it have any service and even towels and refreshment. Never more again.

We spent two nights at the Fes Inn during a 13-day package tour of Morocco and enjoyed the hotel. Unlike others we had no problems with our bottled water or "security guards", which we didn't see. Our room was large, clean and the bathroom and shower were good. The hot water supply was more than adequate. Breakfasts were good. Hotel has a bar although the prices are not cheap. We paid similar prices to those at home, MAD115 for two glasses of rum. GBP & Euro can be exchanged for MAD although we found the rate to be unfavourable for us. We would stay again.

We had 2 nights at the Fes-Inn. We got a triple room, space was enough, place is clean, bathroom is ok, breackfast is ok (tableclothes are not so clean but when travelling a little bit of ability to adapt is needed). It was anyway one of the best places we found during out trip. Only the elevator was not working when we left.

At first we thought this to be a decent tour-allocated accommodation. Good firm bed, big bathroom. However, issues with the wifi at first – everyone had same problem – eventually but reluctantly they powercycled the modem and fixed the problem. Next, our air con had no remote – again not such a big issue but when handled badly its annoying. Front desk girl said she'd get someone to look but half hour later and nothing – went back to desk and she gave me a remote for another room which didn’t work – then a guy came to look at it and gestures where the remote was? He then showed us that the mode on the unit was not adjustable so we made do with leaving on winter thermostat setting. No hairdryer in room and when we asked for one, we got the classic half-melted fire hazard. They also left the window open after cleaning room while we were out – this on a ground floor can mean easy theft for anyone so willing! Breakfast should be avoided. Coffee, tea and juice were just passable. The rest, a mix of breads, pastry, pancakes, gluggy scrambled eggs, bad sausage etc. and most basic cereal. No fruit to speak of at all. Had to ask for a cereal bowls, some cutlery etc and saw one waiter handling food barehanded.

I really don't like posting such negative reviews, but the Fes Inn earned it. Despite the fact the rooms were comfortable and wifi was available, there is trouble lurking. First of all, another reviewer mentioned the bottled water incident -- the hotel doesn't permit guests to bring in their own beverages [keep in mind that some of us brush our teeth with bottled water]. The hotel charges much more than the local shops & insists you purchase on site. Much worse than this, upon departure [I was with a group of 15], the staff ran after us [after they were tipped] and accused two people of stealing a dirty bath towel. They kept us on the property for almost 45 minutes making accusations and demanding $150 MAD [way more than the price of a towel] if we wanted to leave. They even demanded to search bags. It was completely insane & our guides told us the staff had done this before. Such dishonest behavior cannot be rewarded with more business, even if the rooms are nice. This was the ONLY negative experience I had during a 10 day visit in Morocco.
