“Great Meals and Hospitality”
Reviewed 1 October 2011

Our stay was in early April 2011. This Riad has been beautifully restored, furnished and filled with artifacts which represent clothing, textiles, musical instruments from Morocco's past. In the bathroom the handbasin was a Moroccan pottery masterpiece. Very tasty home prepared meals, mostly tagines, are available at the Riad for 20euro pp, and are served in the cool, tiled courtyard. Rooms are clean, airconditioned and serviced daily. The Riad has 2 beautifully presented rooms off the courtyard if you have extra cash to spend.
The Riad is very close to the Medina which is worth exploring on foot but to see more we hired a Guide for half a day and were taken to some of the more remote places like the 'donkey garage', carpenters, brass and tin craftsmen, cedar screens-mashrabiyyas - being carved, the tanneries in the Chouwara area, Musical Instruments museum, Medersa Bou Inania, learnt about Kufi, Thuluth and Andalusi script admired the colourful 'zellij' and inticately carved plaster decoration AND it was hassle free. Beautiful breakfasts, warm hospitality and helpful staff helped made our stay even more memorable. Wifi available.

Very well located just on the edge of the Medina, Food here was very good, breakfasts were excellent and most probably the best we had on our trip round Morocco. Rooms and hotel can look cluttered but done in a arty eclectic style so looks quite good.

Rooms are a bit small and the bedroom and bathroom are only separated by a curtain so make sure you are good friends! You can get wine at a reasonable price - 160 DM but couldn't get beer!

Spent 3 days here, picked up from the train station without a fuss. Arrived early so we were offered a seat in the beautiful courtyard and a cool drink and left to amuse ourselves with the tortises that wander freely around.
The room was long and skinny but was full of local treasures that I could spend hours looking at. The bathroom was a little dark with shutters covered opening directly onto the double bed. The bath also doubled as a spa.
Breakfast was a lavish affair and kept us fed until dinner.
The staff were warm and friendly and very helpful.

Stayed for several nights. Lovely breakfasts! Very helpful staff. They picked us up at the airport without a hitch.
English and French spoken, also serve dinner. No comment on the food as their cook was off on maternity leave when we were there. They did book us a great dinner though at a neighbouring beautiful riad. Lune et Soleil is close to other popular medina restaurants. Air conditioning.
This riad has a large collection of historic artifacts that added interest. Our room was colourful and clean. Nice courtyard garden to enjoy. Great value. Because this riad is at the edge of the median is is possible to go out in the evening and walk home without problems. Not that we had any problems in the media but we were advised that we should not be deep in the median at night.
They arranged Kamal (excellent English, highly educated )as our tour guide, he was great. Highly advise a tour, not very expensive and very informative about the medina and Islam. We told him that we were not shopping, he showed us the medina, we got to spots we ever would have found that are off the main paths. We had so many questions answered that we had from wandering the medina and the first day we arrived.
We also stayed at Riad Dar Bensouda, which is tres chique; Riad Lune et Soleil is not as chique but probably more authenitc and very nice and on a smaller scale with a better, easier location as a starter.

The location was ideal as the taxi could drop us off virtually at the door - a big advantage in this Medina of many unnamed streets, yet we were within five minutes slow stroll of the intriguing maze of the Medina.
The staff were confident in multiple languages, giving us excellent details for sightseeing as well as arranging very able and trustworthy guides/ drivers for both the Medina and the outlying areas.
Compared to other more commercial hotels the staff were delightfully friendly. We had three out of our four meals at the Raid and found each was different and extremely flavorsome, especially the entree's! The food was better than that experienced at a nearby hotel.
We strongly recommend this Raid with it's unique decor and warm and competent staff.

The riad is lovely, beautifully appointed and comfortable. We are here in the heat of summer with 97 degrees temperature and our suite has no air conditioning! The staff suggest that it is because we used the a/c during the afternoon (in 98 degree weather, what's it there for, a wall ornament??). Further, not sure what the fuss about the kitchen is all about. Ate the same thing two nights in a row, a rather bland potato, pea + ___ (meat, fish) tajine...nothing remotely comparable to the food available outside. Go to Thami's around the corner! While 100 euro a night is not a bank breaker, it is more than the value of a place that doesn't deliver ALL the goods it promises. We had a better stay in our little riad in Marrakech.

"We were staying with friends in Fes, but decided to move to a hotel closer to the medina. This Riad was great. (I'm extremelly picky) Ii is on the edge of the Medina, by the taxis. You leave the noisy medina and when this wood door opens you feel like you are being welcomed into a friend's home. They are kind and humble. They'' walk across the courtyard where beautiful lemon trees are and take you to your room, clean and breezy. The AC works great. The room is very cool, they kept furniture and details from decades ago which makes you feel like a special guest. Negatives: Be careful when using the tub though. Don't use it. and be careful with the bees on the lemon tree, if you see one or two just leave them alone and they won't touch you."
