Riad Laaroussa Hotel and Spa

We had a tour of Morocco booked with Journey Beyond Travelling which gave us a fabulous trip! They had recommended we stay at Riad Laaroussa which involved an upgrade from the initial cost as they said if there was one upgrade to do, this would be the one! We agreed and were so pleased that we did this. From the moment our bags were put in the cart, to the front door opened for us by a welcoming and friendly FZ, to being shown our room (the Beige one) with every detail taken care of to our adieu, our stay at Riad Laaroussa was exceptional. Fred and Cathy are warm, inviting and thoughtful hosts with whom we had the opportunity to just sit and chat about life in Morocco. The roof terrace is fabulous with its views and chance to hear the calls to prayer coming from all corners. The details that have gone into the restoration of the palace are remarkable and everything is so tasteful and artistic. The inner courtyard offers harmony, calm and aesthetic beauty. The Hammam and Spa provided a very welcome relaxation and the food (dinner and breakfasts) were excellent and abundant. The staff are all very attentive, caring, and professional and they went out of their way to ensure that all of our needs were met. We would return to Riad Laaroussa without hesitation and feel so fortunate that we have had the opportunity to stay in this very special place.

Room Tip: Any room will be fine but be aware that there are steep stairs and no elevator. The Riad has been re...

I stayed for one evening in last August 2013, had great service from all of the staff, fantastic rooms, amazing breakfast...All in all, anything you could ask for in a hotel whether for business or pleasure.

I also enjoyed getting to know the owners Fred and Cathy, very lovely people!

Room Tip: I stayed in the Red Room, lovely. Bathroom is adjoined to the room, so make sure you are VERY close...

This building is an architectural dream. This was the last place we stayed in on our trip to Morocco and, despite the fact that we had stayed in a couple of spectacular places, this still blew us away. The amazement as we walked in was immediately added to when they gave us a complimentary upgrade to a bigger room. My girlfriend is very into architecture and interior design and immediately wanted to start dismantling the entire room and putting it in her bags (obviously, she didn't do this...) Bedroom was utterly beautiful. Could not fault anything in it and the roof terrace, where you have breakfast, is beautiful as you have a 360 view of the Fes medina. Staff are very helpful and friendly and, despite the fact that the Riad has a restaurant, which apparently is amazing but we did not try it out, are more than happy to recommend other restaurants in Fes to eat in.

Breakfast is very good and they prepared breakfast for us on our last day there, despite the fact we had to leave at 6:30 am. The owners are very friendly and approachable too.

Two things of note - the pillows, quilts etc. on the bed were the most comfortable things I have ever slept on in my life. So much so that I asked Fred, one of the owners, if he knew where I could purchase some. He immediately said I could buy the ones in the room if they had spare (turned out they didn't...sad face). I will be looking into getting some for my house though. The second thing is that this is an old palace and it does have a lot of steep stairs to get to most of the rooms. In fairness, this is mentioned on their website but it is something to note if you have difficulties with stairs.

Also, the Riad will provide you with a guide to traverse the labyrinth streets of the Fes medina. Highly recommended at least for half a day as, with 9,500 windy little streets with no names, it is quite easy to get lost. Worth the money and you can amble around getting lost for the days you have left.

If you are thinking about this Riad, just do it. Guaranteed you will not regret it.

Room Tip: If you have problems with stairs, make sure you contact the Riad before you book anything.

After volunteering in Rabat for one week in a dormitory like setting and spending an uncomfortable 3 hour trip on the train from Rabat we were overjoyed to enter the Riad's beautiful airconditioned rooms. As others have mentioned, the staff is extremely accomodating and met us at the door with ice cold towels which were a godsend in the hot August heat and served us drinks and refreshments in our room. We had a wonderful dinner on the rooftop terrace. They arranged a knowledgeable and entertaining guide of the medina for us. I can't say enough nice things about this place and the wonderful staff and owners Fred and Kathy.

Room Tip: We chose a the room with a queen down stairs and two twins above which was spacious and perfect for...

The only saving grace of trip was walking into these walls. The Medina, is smelly, dirty and piles of garbage everywhere. Then you enter the riad and its heaven. The staff is great and filled with smiles and service. We ate there 3 nights and the food was great, and the roof top terrace provided a great view of the Medina.

Room Tip: Ask for the blue room, it has the most charm.

We stayed at the Riad for 3 days, which were great. We were upgraded to the cream suite. The room was was really nice but as light sleepers we were slightly disappointed by the thin curtains were letting in so much light in the mornings. but the service was excellent, the staff were all so friendly and helpful. They organised great day trips and guides. Overall, we had a great time and would recommend to stay here.

I am pretty picky about hospitality having had the opportunity to travel on business in many beautiful places. Riad Laaroussa is one of the best place I have ever stayed, it is beautiful and the service is exceptional, all the staff including owners are very welcoming, friendly and want to make sure you have the best service. We were recommended a great guide Marjane for 250 dhm half day, very fair, nice and educated ... Worth it. You can go there with close eyes, you will be 100% happy and satisfied!.
