Everything about our 5 day stay at Riad Laaroussa was a pleasure !
-from the very warm welcome by all the staff to the spacious and comfortable rooms .
The delicious and typical Moroccan meals , were lovingly prepared by Fatima and Samira, and served on the superb roof deck, in the lovely garden or by the fire in the living room , of this beautifully restored , and exquisitely decorated17th century palace.
After spending the day wandering around the colourful and busy medina or surrounding areas , it was a treat to return to our peaceful oasis , hidden in a small lane , behind medieval high walls.
Don't forget to pamper yourself with a hammam and massage - in the Riad's private and heavenly spa !

I suppose even if she hadn't agreed to be my wife it would have been the most amazing experience of my life. Riad Laaroussa is THAT magical. But first things first....There are virtually no road signs in Morocco. I fancy myself a geographical genius and I was completely lost within 5 minutes of entering the Medina. Upon turning down the final alley way, we were brought to a large wooden door....This was the entrance to the Riad. It's rather innocuous and unassuming, so don't be alarmed by a lack in grandeur, they've saved all the surprises for the inside. :)

You'll walk through wide and high vaulted hallways and up stairs and enter a beautiful courtyard. Soft eclectic music plays harmoniously with the sound of a fountain and mingling birds. It's paradise. Absolutely lovely in every way. All of my requests were performed with exactness. A bottle of champagne waited our consumption in our room upon arrival. Immediately preceding that however, we were served mint tea and cookies....delicious mouth watering cookies.

The staff of Riad Laaroussa is 5 star. They are absolutely wonderful people. The owners are down to earth, sophisticated and perfectly accommodating hosts.

The room, and point in fact, the entire hotel is simply magnetic with charm. It pulses the warmth that emanates from the owners and staff. I simply cannot articulate how wonderful an experience our trip to Fez was.....it all owed to the fairy tale that is Riad Laaroussa. I will go back, and I would never in a second entertain staying anywhere else.

We spent five nights at Riad Laaroussa during our trip to Morocco and we were delighted with our experiences there. We cannot recommend it enough and hope to return soon.

The Riad is gorgeous, well maintained and tastefully appointed. Located in the old Medina of Fes, it it reached by foot and promises to be an oasis for the eyes and the soul. Our room (the yellow room) was comfortable, spacious and sunny and reached by walking up a flight of stairs. The food at the Riad was freshly prepared and delicious and hence we decided to stay for dinner every night that we were there.

We found the owner of the Riad, Fred Sola, to be very approachable. He made it a point of touching base with all the guests at some point during the day and that was much appreciated.

The staff at Riad Laaroussa deserve a very special mention: comprised largely of women, they are smart, capable, engaging and truly the life of the Riad. Sabah organized our transfers and helped with everything related to our journey, day trips and guides. Fatima and Samira (who run the kitchen) took us under their wing by taking us shopping in the market, describing the wonderful dishes of Fes, teaching us their family recipes and demonstrating their culinary skills. Hind kept us laughing and happy at every meal and never failed to ask how our day was or if we needed anything. These women and others at the Riad (like Samia and Naima too), enriched our experience in Fes in ways that are indescribable yet profound. We will always look back at the time we shared with them as the unexpected bounty of our trip to Morocco!

We spent three enjoyable days at Riad Laaroussa in the Medina in Fes. Our warm and helpful hosts including the gracious owner Frederic and his assistants Sabah and the delightful Hindy, ensured that our every want and desire ware attended to! Breakfast, whether at the outdoor table adjacent to our Green Suite and beneath the orange trees, or on the roof top, was delicious - fresh juices, crepes and delicious Arabic coffee! Dinners the three nights we dined at Laaroussa - "the rose" - were always delicous and most enjoyable - please note; the Medina at Fes seemed rather daunting to attempt to venture out for dinner; be forewarned!

Our only request of ownership would have been for there to be a CD player and a telephone within our suite. We felt that these were two necessary requirements of luxury accommodation such as Riad Laaroussa. As well, the clothing storage area, for those wishing to "unpack" as we like to do, was absolutely minimal requiring us to "live out of our suitcases". Otherwise, we enjoyed our stay very much and we will return to see our friends and gracious hosts at Riad Laaroussa.

My wee family decided to go to Morocco for my 40th birthday celebration. We decided to go to Fez after doing some research into other cities. Fez is the cultural and spiritual capital of Morocco and since it is slightly off the beaten track the tourists that arrive in this city are people looking for something different. We definitely got what we were looking for!
We arrived by taxi from Casa Blanca and without understanding a word that our taxi driver was saying to people on the street a young guy arrived with a little cart, stuffed our bags in and started running off.....Taxis are not allowed in the medina so it is the only way to get to a hotel. We followed our bags through small alleyways, up and down small inclines until we reached a quite dingy looking door way. We rang the bell and we were greeted by Sabah and Hindy and as we peeked inside we saw absolute paradise! It is a haven hidden away which you could never imagine lies behind the dingy wall that you see from the outside. The building is absolutely beautiful, beyond imagination of what you might ever find anywhere in the western world. The main hallway into the Riad is huge and decorated in a rustic but minimalistic style with massive mirrors on the walls and two massive vases each 2 meters tall that look as if they have been carved from one single tree trunk. Walk though the hallway and enter into the courtyard which is filled with trees, birds, a small fountain, tiled alcoves, pillars that stand at least 10 meters tall, original wood work extensively detailed plasterwork all around. The rooms throughout the Riad are amazing with ceilings that go up 20 feet or more with ceilings that are intricately painted wood work. The first night at dinner we just sat and kept looking up to the ceiling in amazement. Our hosts, Sabah and Hindy just kept walking into the room to laugh at our impressed response. The rooms are equally beautiful and very relaxing since they are inside of the courtyard and seclude the guests from the hustle bustle of the streets. There are photos hanging through out the Riad which show the before photos and the work that was completed to bring it to the state that it is in today. Works on the building began six years ago and took 2 years to complete and the result is stunning!
Our hosts Sabah and Hindy went above and beyond the call of duty and were so welcoming and so friendly that we really did not want to leave at the end of the week! The entire city was welcoming and friendly! People were so kind and helpful. One day we wanted to go into the university library where everyone had said we could visit and they told us we could not go in......We sat down at a very local type of cafe right next door to the library and started talking to the owner about not getting in and the next ting we new there was some man who called us over and basically got us in to see! Asked for nothing in exchange, just did us the favour. Great people of Morocco!!!! And Sabah and Hindy were no exception to the Moroccan hospitality. Anything we needed they would arrange, they constantly fed us and offered us tea or other drinks and took the time to chat and get to know us while we were there. Every morning they asked how we slept and asked about our plans for the day and made suggestions of what to do and see.
We will definitely be back to Morocco and will definitely be staying at Raid Laaroussa for more pampering, relaxation and amazing beauty!

We stayed at Riad LaaRoussa for two nights in March, and loved every aspect of this special hotel. We arrived from Casablanca by rental car, and our appreciation for the staff began before we were even in Fez. Sabah arranged for a guide to meet us at a gate to the medina, and a car park for several days, and was readily available by phone as we neared the city. The guide was a very helpful man who led us to the lot, negotiated the parking rates, transferred our bags to a cart and led us to the hotel. A helpful driving tip for Fes: hire a taxi to lead you to your meeting point. It is was very difficult to find the landmarks on our own.

The medina feels very exotic and a bit chaotic, which adds a delightful contrast to the grand scale and warm, calm welcome upon arrival to the riad. We were traveling with our 8 and 10 year old children, and the four of us stayed in the Orange Suite. The large room has a loft with two single beds and a double bed on the main floor, and all were very comfortable. The room is very pretty, with a fireplace and large, very decorative bathroom. We all slept very well, as it is dark and quiet at night.

The staff at Riad LaaRoussa are very kind, professional, and helpful. Indi in particular went to great lengths to make sure we had everything we needed, make our tour and most meal arrangements, and was also a pleasure to talk with about the local area and customs. We left quite early our last day, and Indi arranged our breakfast and departure with some food for the road. We remain grateful for her help.

While the riad and people we came into contact with were all reason alone to return, a special mention must go to Fatima, whose cooking made our decision to have our meals at the hotel a no-brainer. We love trying new restaurants and foods on all of our travels, but her cooking is so delicious that we decided to have most of our meals there. We all loved our stay at Riad LaaRoussa, and hope to come back in the future.
