I'm just returning from a months visit in Morocco and I spent three nights in lovely Riad. I have to say the best part of the experience was the staff. They were very friendly and so very accommodating. I stayed in one of the larger rooms which was very comfortable. The rooms and common areas are decorated in period Moroccan furnishings and certainly gives you the sense of just how much history you are experiencing.

The common areas were huge and quite comfortable. I ate all my dinners there, with one of them being a result of a cooking lesson. Which was the first time I have ever seen marinated lemons. Awesome! All the meals were excellent and they were more then accommodating when all I wanted was soup and salad rather then the whole set menu.

This was a very lovely visit with an exceptional friendly and helpful staff!

Three of us stayed 3 nights at Da Anebar. It is a lovely riad and we immediately felt like family. The owner was there to meet us and the staff were very friendly and helpful. There are only 5 guestrooms, so you really feel like a visitor in a home, not a hotel. They got to know us very quickly and had our specific breakfast preferences ready each morning. The room was large, furnished in typical Moroccan style with a bed for each of us,. The bathroom was spacious and well appointed. Breakfast was great each morning--too much food. We had dinner there one night and it was fabulous! Liquor is hard to come by in Fes, but they had some. Mustaafa gave us helpful hints on sightseeing each day. Only disappointment was the rooftop terrace--not very inviting.

Ten of my friends and I spent a delightful night in this riad in fez. It was my third visit to the riad and I was delighted at the high standard that had been maintained since my last visit. The rooms were wonderfully air conditioned, which following the heat of the city was perfect, the beds were very comfortable and the rooms beautifully furnished in a traditional Moroccan style. Breakfast and dinner were very tasty and plentiful and we had a lovely stay and would highly recommend the riad for others passing through this delightful city.

We visited Dar Anebar for dinner while staying in Fes and enjoyed some of the best Moroccan cuisine, including outstanding pastilla. A very good selection of excellent Moroccan wine was available too.The settings were elegant and the service first class.

This Riad is a family home going back several generations. We had the big suite Oumkeltoum, and it was superb. Large sitting room, big bedroom / large bed and great bathroom with 2 sinks so not disputes on sharing! Ahmed and his team were very very helpful and organised a great city guide, Abrihim and super and careful driver to take us to Volubulous.

We ate in the Riad each night because the food was so good and so was the wine, especially the Syrah red. Each alcove off the centre is like a private dining room and meals are beautifully presented with candles and the sound of the fountain as a backdrop.
This place is very special and you are treated as part of the family from the minute you arrive

Room Tip: all the rooms looked great so book to your budget with confidence.

My sister, my friend, and I (all females) stayed at Dar Anabar's sister Riad, DAR ANEBAR SGHIRA, which is just across the alleyway from the main Dar Anabar, this November (2011). The rooms were nice and clean and very quaint with local decor. The cleanliness was above average, as well as the amenities, though comparably priced, for places we stayed in throughout our 2 week stay in Morocco. We also had a good meal that was above average for Fez, though it wasn't cheap but reasonably priced. The stay was a treat to say the least and we ended up making this our go-to base for travel around the northern region.

The staff from the general Manager, Ahmed, to Mustafa and Azziz (sp?) were all very nice and helpful. They went above and beyond expectations to help us run to the nearest medina gate to catch a taxi late in the evening because we were running behind and almost missed our (CTM) bus back to Marrakech.

Mustafa was everyone's favorite as he was very pleasant and congenial to interact with and seemed like a very modest hardworking family man. No agenda but to help guests and make everyone feel comfortable. Great at suggestions for local transportation and landmarks etc.

Overall an excellent experience. Thank you to everyone at Dar Anabar for making our stay so welcoming and pleasant!

If you drop into the riad you should also check out the old leather-bound guest book. It's amazing and has interesting comments and doodles from so many past guests.

Have fun in Morocco!

I stayed in the annexe which is just across the lane from the original riad. The room was smallish, simply furnished but spotlessly clean, with pretty colored glass windows looking into a small central courtyard. Hot water available 24 hours with good pressure. It is very quiet. The free wifi available in the main riad did not reach to the annexe. The main door to the annexe is kept locked. You need to go to the main riad to get it opened for you each time you wish to access, but this does make it also quite secure.

The main riad is gorgeous. Plenty of sitting areas but poor light for reading. Breakfast is boiled egg, packaged yoghurt and a plate of different breads and croissant with beautiful jams. the service is good.

Dinner is also offered at the riad for an additional charge. There is a set menu at 300 dirham which I did not access. You can also order a single main...I had a chicken pastillo @ 110 dirhams. Nice enough but not outstanding.

The riad organised an airport transfer which was efficient.

Room Tip: although not as luxurious as the main riad the annexe is pleasant and much less expensive.
