“Wonderful stay - wish we could have had more time!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 13 December 2012

Dar Dmana was recommended by a colleague, and I am very grateful to him for introducing us to this beautiful riad run by the family homeowners. The proprietors are wonderful folk, and the lady of the house cooked the bestfood I have ever eaten in my life. The rooms are gorgeous on the whole - I wished I could have stayed in the Bahia room, or one of the suites on the ground floor. Each room has its own character and beauty. The couches on the first and second floors in the hallways overloooking the central courtyard were very comfortable places to sit, though they could use some better lighting for the darker winter evening hours. The staff is terrific, always providing everything we ever needed or requested. The staffwomen who offered us breakfast and kept the rooms lovely had excellent language skills, and were very gracious.
We went up to the rooftop, where the solar water heaters are placed, and enjoyed the best panoramic view of the city - even better than the also wonderful rooftop view from the Museum of Carpentry and Woodwork near Moulay Ismail. I wishes I could have stayed longer, and samples some of the other rooms, named either for a member of the owners' family, or for one of the peaks in the Middle Atlas. This riad was very conveniently located near Batha plaza and museum. Si Rachid and his house are terrific. Very Highly recommended! I want to take my students there as a group.

Room Tip: Tough to choose! The pictures onlne may help.

We stayed for a week and the place was the highlight of our visit to fez, the house and its facilities were great and the food was just fantastic. Friendly people with great hospitality. If we would ever think to visit Fez again, the 1st reason will be to stay in dar Damana. Its location was the best ever, very close to the main taxi rank, 5 mins drive from the main city center, train station and the main taxi station. The closest bab was Bab Jeloud where good quality shops and restaurants are located with reasonable prices. They could also arrange your travel to and from airport, which always a good idea if you are not familiar with the city. They could also arrange for day or more tours round the medina or visiting other near by cities.

Room Tip: Best price can be obtained directly from the owner rather than websites or agencies. Any room is goo...

First the place, takes you back a couple of centuries, with wooden carved walls, hand chiselled columns and mosaic everywhere with modern anemites (Internet, A/C, solar water heaters...) Just sensational. The location is at the edge of the medina (Bat-ha) near a taxi station which made it easy to go out and visit Fes and return nightly. The staff really got out of their way to make us feel at home. Service was prompt and always with a smile. Breakfast was copious, well prepared, varied. Truth is, we were so well treated that we ended up staying three weeks rather than the originally planned 10 days. We have tried the beautiful Hotel route, but for the personal attention, the amazing surroundings and the perfect location, my wife and I both feel this Riad made our trip unique and unforgettable.

Room Tip: For health freaks like us, the 3rd floor was perfect.

I have done research and fieldwork in Morocco for 15 years, and never experienced anything like Dar Dmana. We organized a dinner for our students and it was the *best food* I have ever tasted in a restaurant in Morocco, hands down. It rivals and (sorry Mrs. N) sometimes surpasses home food. The setting is a beautiful elegant traditional home--refurbished and itself an exquisite historical monument. Elegant, quiet, peaceful. This is the family home of a very old sharifian family (blood descendants of the Prophet Muhammad)--members of the family have refurbished it to make a riad, as many of the young people moved to the big city or are abroad for work and studies.
After the hustle and bustle (emphasis hustle) of the Fez madina, travelers will find elegance and peace in this beautiful riad, interesting historically from many points of view.

Room Tip: We didn't stay there as a hotel, so I can't judge this.

Recently, my two friends and I spent a couple of nights at this beautiful and classy riad. Arriving hot and tired, we were made to feel very welcome with offerings of mint tea and sweets. During the stay, the owner always took time to engage us in conversation and to ensure we were enjoying ourselves. Our room, large enough to accommodate three of us comfortably, was located on an upper floor enabling us to look upon the dining area below and to view the gorgeous wood panelling and plants of the riad’s interior. The building is spectacular, a worthy example of domestic Moroccan architecture and style. The meals were sumptuous and tasty. The riad is also a short walk from numerous cafés and the medina market. I recommend it highly to anyone who plans an overnight trip to Fes and is looking for a genuine Moroccan experience.

We had the good fortune to stay in Dar Dmana, in May 2012. As we arrived we were greeted, personally by the owner and his relatives with, as is customary in Morocco, mint tea. In true Moroccan business style, good conversation and tea came before business. This Dar or 'House' is a modernized but very traditional family run business. Our room was quite large with a king size bed and three Moroccan couches surrounding a TV/sitting room section. There were 3 of us, and although any of the couches would have made a comfortable bed, the staff made sure to fit in an additional single bed. The very large bathroom housed a 'Hammas' style bath where one could shower, bathe or sit on a stool and wash off with buckets of hot water. In the style of traditional homes, the windows were interior and opened up over the covered courtyard or hall that is decorated with Moroccan art and crafts. Our supper, while costing extra, was a gourmand's delight with elaborate, cooked salads and meats. A typical Moroccan breakfast was included in the price. Service was excellent and when we called the desk because of a problem with electricity, someone appeared within 2 minutes to investigate. As it turned out the problem was not the hotel's but rather a faulty personal adapter. Staff were pleasant and not at all put out, but exceptionally accommodating (and did not stand around with a hand out for a tip). This authentic style small hotel offered service and atmosphere at least 10 times better than any larger hotel would.

Room Tip: Make sure you chat with the owner, who speaks both English and French, to express your needs and he...

This is a wonderful little riad. I just returned from a stay at the end of May 2012 for four days. The rooms were nicely decorated and very clean. The main courtyard area of the hotel is also very pretty in its appointments. This is a family run riad. The owners were positively lovely and helpful though English is not their primary language (it helps a lot if you know a few words of French). On the first night, I had the chicken with prunes tagine which was cooked right there and absolutely delightful. Breakfast was always a very nice assortment of breads and crepes with jams and honey as well as fresh squeezed orange juice. This riad is not in the medina but close and is very close to the restaurant Maison Bleu (which is an absolute must if you go to Fez). I liked being in this part of town as you could walk about and feel safe in addition ot having the opportunity to see local life in the cafes and places where people sit out at night. I would return to stay here in a heartbeat.

Room Tip: The suites are bigger and not much more in expense.
