“Elegance and charm in the heart of the Medina”
Reviewed 11 December 2009

We passed 5 nights in this riad and we had a very good experience.
Dar Dmana is perfectly located nearby the Blue Door or Bab Boujeloud - i.e. at the very beginning of the classic tour through the Medina - and one of the petits taxis stops, so you can easily reach it from the airport.
The common area, i.e. the central patio, is one of the most beautiful of the kind, with its marble floor, cedar panels and doors, antique mosaics and fine stucco decorations at the walls. The atmosphere is calm, silent and relaxed and you will enjoy it after a day passed in the bustling Medina.
Rooms are spacious and decorated with local furniture, with free WiFi included.
Mr. Rachid and his staff are the most polite, friendly and cooperative people you would find, they gave us useful advice to organise our stay (city guide, transfers, restaurants...) and every single information was all right.
Furthermore, if one night you are too tired to get out dining, try what Mr Rachid call the cook's "golden fingers": we had one of the best dinners in Fes, served in the riad patio, with a superb variety of delicious vegetables and an excellent tajine. And at a reasonable price.
Thank you, Mr Rachid.

I stayed at this Dar a couple weeks ago and was pleasantly surprised. The Dar was very close to the Medina. My room over looked the central courtyard, had a king bed, and air-conditioning. The staff was wonderful and very accommodating. When I checked out, I left two shirts in the room closet. The next day I contacted the hotel and the owner indicated he had my shirts and would forward them to me by CTM bus to Marrakesh. A few days later, the shirts were waiting for me at the CTM bus station. I couldn’t have asked for a better experience.

Spent 4 nights at Dar Daman in June. The owners are on site friendly and helpful. The Riad has been done beautifully with lovely antique pieces and traditional decor.
The rooms are lovely and the breakfasts lavish. The location is great, especially if you like to wander the medina or are there for the Sacred Music Festival.
Prices are mid range.

excerpts from a travel diary...

Coming to Fes in the middle of the night was kind of frightening ( different language, different people, etc. ), but when we found the wonderful riad Dar Dmanan by chance, we instantly felt safe. Mr. Rachid, the owner of the riad, welcomed us very kind and friendly. During our 4 day stay he became a friend, helping us even as we had a realy serious problem...

The traditional maroccan riad is so rich of details, luxurious and represents beauty in every piece. We were very thankful to have found this piece of traditional arabian art.

Additionally, the staff is so warm and friendly - we felt like belonging to the family...
After every night a great maroccan breakfast ( different bread variations, eggs, olives, jam, etc.) was waiting for us, served by the friendly servicegirl Hakima.
One night we enjoyed a chicken tangine that was so delicious and tasteful. Afterwards we learned that the chef of the riad, Hayet, cooks only in the traditional way of maroccan cuisine - absolutely magnificent!!!

To sum up our experience: the stay at the Dar Dmana was the perfect start to our Marocco trip - beautiful, warm, friendly and luxurious - more than we ever wished for :)

This old family home turned riad has a sophisticated and beautiful appearance, yet is friendly, clean and comfortable to stay in. My winter stay was warm and comfortable, hot water available 24/7 and the public areas were all at a pleasant temperature. From the first welcome tea/coffee and biscuits the staff could not do enough to make my stay pleasant.

No TV - but that was an oversight at the time.

Situated close to one of the gates of the Fez Medina it makes quick forays into the medina simple yet for those requiring parking there is a monitored park nearby.

An ideal location for a lone traveller.

Added bonus - the food was of excellent quality, presentation and taste.

  • Liked — Ambience. Sophisticated yet friendly.
  • Disliked — My particular room was close to a thoroughfare and a little noisy until midnight.
