“The best place to stay in Fes”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 10 May 2014

We stayed for three nights in this beautiful Riad, its a real oasis of calm and cool from the hot and hectic medina with beautiful rooms, a lovely courtyard and a roof terrace to chill out on after a day exploring. The location is perfect, its tucked inside the Medina enough to make you feel that you are in the thick of things but within easy walking distance to a main gate if you want to get a taxi somewhere or escape in the nearby and beautiful gardens. There are good local and excellent international places to eat at night within 5 minutes walk. The rooms were really comfortable and breakfast was different, delicious and huge everyday. But really the best thing about the hotel are the owners Max and Kawtar who were so welcoming and helpful without being intrusive it really helped us to get the most out of our stay. Max in particular spent a long time giving us tips and advice about where to eat, how to see the sights with minimum hassle and generally answering any number of probably tedious questions we had! More than that he is a genuinely friendly and interesting chap who shared with us stories of his experiences as an expat living in Fez and we felt we got to know each other over the short stay, if it wasn't for the bill at the end I would have thought we were staying with old friends. If you are trying to decide where to stay in Fez I think you would be hard pushed to find somewhere better than this! Good wifi, drinks if you want them, laundry service, guide books and maps you can borrow too, everything was excellent. Great value for money.

Just returned from five days in Fez staying with Max and Kawtor in Dar Iman. Home from home, right in the thick of the medina, Lovely, helpful people and a beautiful home. The breakfasts are great and Max and Kawtor will do all they can to make sure you have a good time.
I will return!

We stayed with Max and Kawtar for a week in October 2013 and gave Dar Iman a great rap then. Posting again to commend them to others, as both have just gone out of their way 6 months after we left to recover a large sum of money (nearly $1000 Australian) from an unscrupulous ceramic dealer who didn't send the goods ('lost the email etc etc'). M & K are irreplaceable. NB souk shoppers beware - ALWAYS get a receipt; preferably pay by Visa (don't believe the 'I don't have one because…'), and think seriously about having Max or Kawtar involved in any large purchases. We travelled extensively for 7 months and found Morocco the least scrupulous of any country.

We had planned 4 nights in Fes - but stayed 11 and had a great experience. This place is phenomenal! Right in the heart of the old Fes medina a real sanctuary from the bustle of the streets. Located only 5 minutes walk from Bab Boujeloud where the taxi will drop you off and less than 200 meters from a small parking lot.

Max and his Moroccan wife Kwatar are the best hosts anyone could wish for. Having lived in Morocco for six years Max understands both Moroccan culture and the needs of his guests, providing good advice about where to eat, where to buy things at the right price and how to find the sights in the medina which is not always easy – and even a donkey if you are too tired to walk the Medina.
Max and Kawtar are very friendly, genuine people who love what they do and always have your best interests at heart. They are quite happy to sit and chat with you and share a few laughs and yarns or just give you some time to yourself.

You will feel as if you are staying with old friends as guests in their home, rather than feeling like you're staying at a hotel.
The rooms are quiet, clean and comfortable and well restored. Everything works (which is more than you can say of most of the even more expensive hotels in Morocco) - as does the wi-fi connection.
The rooftop terrace is a great spot to unwind at the end of the day with a cold beer. Yes, beer and wine are available!
Great spot, good price and very friendly. We recommend it

Intended to stay for a few days but ended up staying for more than a week. Apart from a very good location in the centre, absolutely clean place, good beds, food etc the most joyous experience was chatting with Max who despite living in Fes for years has retained a healthy Australian humour. Also a fountain of knowledge of any kind of speciality shop you may ask for - and not least where to find it in the maze of alleys. The wi-fi also allowed me to do some computer work on the terrace and send it home. What better work place can you ask for.
One should not forget that in contrast to many more expensive hotels, all amenities work, no dripping faucet or contact hanging out of the wall. And not least, if you arrive by car there is a parking lot nearby. Dar Iman is highly recommended.

We stayed 3 nights in Dar Iman, and it located on the main street (Tala'a Kbira) near Bab Boujloud (Blue Gate) and Percee 'ain-zleten (car parking). this is the first time to exactly understand the meaning of "helpful" & "friendly" to get the assistance and useful information (local hammam and rates to take taxi) from Max, the manager of Dar Iman. He prepared breakfast not only traditional morocco breads and coffee , but also banana pancake, Tagine which were a great surprise every morning. Thanks for Max's friendly welcome, we will miss here.

While visiting Fez we stayed at the Dar Iman. Max was extremely helpful; when we first arrived he came to pick us up at the taxi stand and then provided us with a map to get around the city. He recommended good restaurants and informative information regarding the city. Breakfast is great! One of the only criticism I could provide would be that the rooms are quite dark. Thanks Dar Iman !
