We ate at Assala a few nights ago. We went there because of the raving reviews. To be honest the food was good, but seriously 18 euros for a tagine. All in all it was a pleasant experience and don't get me wrong the food is good, just majorly over priced.
Good luck to this new restaurant.

This was the first best meal we have had after many days in Morocco. The owner of the restaurant led us from Ryad Layla, and this restaurant is truly a gem in the Medina. Several levels, with great views of the area from the top terrace. We highly recommend aberjenne, an eggplant spread. The vegetarian couscous is just incredible. Very friendly!!

We'd been in Fes a couple of days, and were really having trouble finding decent Moroccan food. Our first meal was at Kasbah, overlooking the blue gate, and was dreadful - avoid like the plague.

By contrast, Assala was lovely. Though the prices were a little on the steep side, the food was wonderful, which is what really mattered. The beef with prunes was particularly good. Though the starters looked small there were more than enough and we were all stuffed by the end. Service was fast and very friendly and accommodating. You can pay by card too.

Highly recommended!

After being harassed by locals who seem to all be very interested in your dinner choices, we happened upon restaurant Assala.
The restaurant is up a fairly steep set of stairs but beautifully set out. We ate on the terrace which is up another level.
The menu was limited enough but that is not a bad sign in a place this small. We started with warm Moroccan salads (4 different warm vegetable salads) which were very tasty. Our main courses were lovely and we had a dessert of tea (mint of course) and small pastries. All very good.
The host was so helpful and really sweet. The cook has obviously cooked these dishes a lot and her experience shows. She really cooked everything well.

If you want a nice peaceful dinner in a quiet part of the medina then search out this restaurant and you will not be disappointed.

It is in the Chrabliyine area of the medina on the Main Street of that part of the medina. A definite find!
