“Excellent retreat in Fez!”
Reviewed 17 January 2014

We stayed at Riad Dar Skalli for four nights over the holidays. Beautiful riad with a fabulous rooftop terrace overlooking the medina! Karim arranged a taxi to pick us up from the train station and take us to the riad for 70 dirham....more expensive then if we arranged for ourselves, but we arrived late and it was nice not to have to worry about getting lost. Breakfast was the best we encountered in Morocco! Homemade pastries every morning, and everyday there was something different. We stayed in the Skalli suite which was huge! We were on the first floor so there was some outside noise every morning when breakfast began around 8, but otherwise the riad was very quiet. We ate dinner on our first night which was delicious. ~180 dirham per person which is pricier then what you'll find elsewhere in the city, but the quality and convenience was worth it. Karim also recommended a hammam in the new city for us to visit, and he even drove us there! Excellent experience, very authentic and not touristy at all. ~100 dirham for a complete scrub down and massage...definitely recommend!

The riad is pretty, well located, has a good breakfast and housekeeping and waiter - the only one for all 9 rooms - are nice. however, there is no receptionist and you may be locked out for a while when you arrive (we were lucky to have our guide from a tour with us who was able to call from his local cell phone and somebody came to open).
As in every other Riad we stayed in Morocco, they give you a mint tea upon your arrival as you fill out the mandatory tourist information sheet. At this one, before even getting the tea, the manager already brought us the bill to be paid two days later.
In the morning, there wasn't anybody from management (just the one waiter, doing his best to serve all the rooms) to ask for information about the city (and they charge 25 DH for a city map, while our riads in marrakech gave us that for free). Also, be ready to wait for breakfast in the morning - because there is not enough staff or even tables for all guests if the riad is full, it may take a while to get your meal. but the food is really really good.
finally, they allowed us to keep our bags there while we wondered around town waiting for our train. when we came back and sat for one hour, we asked for mint tea, and drank there in the dark (they did not lit any lights in the riads common area). before walking ourselves out (nobody even accompanied us to the door) the manager charged us 40DH for the two teas - the most expensive mint tea we had in 15 days in Morocco. in short, would not recommend this riad

Room Tip: do not choose the big rooms located on the first floor. little privacy (the rooms open directly to t...

Nice hotel for the price. Large bathroom and spacious rooms.
Owner was rude at various times. The manager hind however was nice. There is no payment via visa which can be an issue. Overall a good experience.

This Riad is what Morrocan hospitality is all about. The manager Hind and her staff will go out of their way to help in any way. The atmosphere is homey without being intrusive. The ambiance is fantastic. The medina is a 5 minute walk from the riad. Everything works and is efficient. I can highly recommend Dar Skalli - a gem of a place. Lastly, the food there is the best we had in Fes or Marrakesh.

I enjoyed a lot the staying in this Riad.
The host (she) gave us a very good guidance and the welcome was really very personalized.
The food at the dinner it's also delicious. You should try one dinner at least inside the Riad.

I stayed with my two children (two years old and 4 month old) and a good friend at Riad Dar Skalli. We both got a triple room offered. My room with use of a childcot (clean, including mattress and sheets etc). The rooms were spacy, with nice windows/light and very clean. The service at the Riad is wonderful. All people working at the Riad are very friendly and flexibel. The children enjoyed the place very much. My two years old son liked especially the rooftop terrace to run arond, the beautiful stairs to climb and the parrot in the hall. The youngest one liked the bench, the shower and the warm air from the heating system in the room afer having a shower. The location is great, it's on the side of the old medina, which means you can easily find your way back by asking for the Batha Square, but in no time you are in the middle of small streets without any motorized traffic. Also the food in the Riad is very tasty. Even the taxi service was well organized and we had a very friendly taxi driver. Hind and Karim, both thank you so much for the stay at your place!! We definitely come back!
