My family booked the entire riad for a week in May and we all thoroughly enjoyed our stay. It is a lovely 5bdrm with ensuite bath riad on 3 levels including the roof patio. As you enter there is a warm & welcoming courtyard with plunge pool which was very refreshing after a full day of exploring Marrakech. There is one bedroom off the courtyard along with a lovely & comfy living room, kitchen, & the staff quarters. There are a few tables in the courtyard area for dining where we had most of our breakfasts & one fantastic dinner. We had one breakfast on the roof terrace which was also lovely but hot & sunny. Off the courtyard are stairs to the 2nd level where there are 4 additional bdrms and the stairs continue to the roof terrace which gets plenty of sun.
We booked online and Jacques (owner) & Mouhammed (manager) were VERY responsive on all inquiries as I had many. Also we arranged transfers & pickups which the family all arrived at different times throughout the first day. They also gave us great recommendations & advice as to what to do & where to go. The additional staff, Meryem & Abdul, were also fantastic which made our stay even more special. They were so friendly & attentive. We stayed during Ramadan and despite fasting all day long, they all remained so sweet & lovely. When we left we all exchanged warm hugs as it was sad to leave.
The riad itself is quite beautiful! I do a TON of research when looking to book places to stay as I am hyper organized & thorough, so you can trust me when I say this place is the BEST OF THE BEST! It is traditionally decorated with such beautiful details & authenticity. The beds were super comfortable, all rooms have AC, large bathrooms, and always impeccably clean. Our morning breakfasts were simple, carb heavy, but a perfect way to start the day of exploring. Our dinner our first night was also delicious & super filling with olives & bread, vegetarian & chicken tagines, assorted vegetables, wine, and dessert. The riad was also perfectly located. It was a minute walk to the Bab Laksour entrance to the riad which is super convenient upon arrival with suitcases since no cars are permitted into the Medina and great when exploring outside the old town. Very quick & easy to get to the taxis waiting outside. The riad is down a long alley between the buildings but once you do it the first time, easy to remember finding your way. It is also completely safe & pin-drop quiet which is a nice escape from the hustle & bustle. Getting to the main square & the souks is just a quick 5 minute walk and all shops are just outside the alley.
If we were to ever go back to Marrakech, we would not hesitate to stay there again. I HIGHLY recommend it & you will not be disappointed!
We booked the entire riad for a week, and when we chose it, we picked it because of its apparent central location, and because it appeared to be more authentically decorated than some of the others we looked at.
Our experienced completely exceeded our expectations on all fronts. Jacques and Mouhamed were excellent at pre-arrival communication and arranging transfers--everything went very smoothly. The riad is exceptionally well located, on a quiet alley right by Bab Laksour. This means quick access to a taxi rank, no need to haul luggage a long distance over cobblestones, a quick 4-minute walk to the main square, 4 minutes to the central souks, and close to both the Secret Garden and the Koutoubia Mosque. The riad itself is just lovely--clean, beautiful, full of character, well-designed, and spacious, with lots of nooks where people can relax, read, chat, or enjoy the sun. The plunge pool is great for cooling off after a day of walking around exploring the souks. The breakfasts are great--perhaps a bit carbohydrate heavy! But given how much walking you do in Marrakech, that's OK. We enjoyed a Moroccan dinner at the riad our first night, and it was delicious.
But the best part of the riad was the staff: Mouhamed, Meryem, and Adbul. They were all so welcoming, responsive, helpful, and cheerful (even when waking up to open the door for us well after midnight). Abdul gave lessons in writing in Arabic, and we joined together to watch the Champions League soccer game. He in particular made our stay in Marrakech very special.
I recommend Riad Magie d'Orient highly to anyone interested in a well-located, quiet, comfortable oasis in Marrakech.
