Having stayed in several crappy places in australia/asia,and many that were only mediocre...
I very much appreciated the quality, cleanliness, friendlyness and overall experience at the riad.... It is a very welcoming retreat to go back to after a busy day dodging between the plethora of the traders in the souks (which are literally on your doorstep, via a quick left or right out of the quiet and tranquil alleyway that the riad is situated upon)
The owners were very welcoming and friendly, and nothing was too much trouble in relation to organising things for our time away, everything from personal requests, food, drink, taxis etc etc. Thier local knowledge of sites, restaurants, places to shop and everything in general was extensive. In addition to knowledge of customs and language - which is ever so important as Marrakech can be a daunting place for touristy types, and is more for travellers.
As mentioned above in regards to the owners, this allows for a happy medium for those who arent too sure about jumping in the deep end and exploring
The riad itself is wonderfully furnished, very clean, and bordering on palatial!
As for the staff; Kamal the riad manager is a local man who has grew up in the surrounding area of the riad, and is a good man to go to for advice for etiquette and barting, and general social advice for your time in Marrakech, he knows his stuff, and helps to aid in the deliverence of solid customer service within the riad. (He got me a good deal on a lantern too!)
As for the other staff - all of the staff operating within the riad (other than Kamal) are female; and are true gems... nothing was too much trouble, and they were exceptionally accomodating to all members of the group (we hired the whole riad). As someone recently told me, the key to a good business, is finding good employees, and keeping them... I believe the owners have very much done so with these ladies.
I would recommed this as very suitable accommodation to those who dont mind spending out a little bit more for somewhere which is well worth it.
If you want to sample real Marrakech, this is the perfect place to be in the heart of the Medina, and literally a few minutes walk from 'the big square'.
