“A perfect escape from the madness”
Reviewed 15 October 2011

Riad Elizabeth is perfectly located (once you've cracked the maze) just away from the main sites north of the souk.
For the first few nights we had the Riad to ourselves and we're looked after perfectly by the team. Kamal was generous with his time and sharing his expertise and love of Marrakech, having been born and raised near the Riad. We had a 'mission impossible' to find some tiles for our house back in England and Kamal stepped in and helped us arrange the deal and sort shipping (hopefully they're arriving this week!)
The rooms are nicely decorated, big enough to store all our gear, with a refreshing shower and cooling air con - perfect as temperatures were mid 40s in early September.
Breakfast was good, freshly made and served on the rooftop.
Would highly recommend this as a home from home and great escape from the enjoyable madness of Marrakech

We had a lovely stay at Riad Elizabeth. John and Elizabeth were so welcoming and friendly, and all the staff - Kamal and the lovely ladies - were wonderful. Riad Elizabeth is in a great location just a few minutes walk from the Medina, but also very handy as cars/taxis have access very close to the riad. Riad Elizabeth is a gorgeous riad the bedrooms are lovely with rose petals scatted throughout which is a nice touch. I would certainly recommend Riad Elizabeth to famiy and friends and I'm sure we'll be back again soon.

Although I did not actually stay at the Elizabeth... I spent many hours there as it was the venue for my brothers wedding. The riad was beautiful, clean and had outstanding staff. Kamal the manager was outstanding and nothing was to much trouble for him. He went above and beyond with requests from family members organising taxis, offering advice and generally just being a lovely guy who got on beautifully with everyone. The owners John and Elizabeth were amazing. They are lovely couple and a rightfully proud of their beautiful riad.
I was in costant contact with them before our arrival and their replies were always prompt and informative.

I must also add that the meal we arranged on arrival was outstanding... also the finger buffet at the actual wedding reception was amazing. I ate and enjoyed everything served as did all of our group.

The riad is itself is within easy walking distance of the souks ( markets). I was initially very apprehensive about trying to barter but found at the end I didn't mind and enjoyed trying to get the best price. We only had one encounter when some stall owners tried to send us the wrong way but by then we had figured out how to get back ourselves and ignored them. The people on the whole were very friendly and approachable. We were respectful by covering our shoulders even though we knew we didn't need to. .. but I think when in that environment you should be considerate and mindful not to offend.

So did I enjoy the experience... absolutely!! Would I go back? Absolutely!! Thank you, Kamal, Elizabeth, John and other staff members for a memorable stay. I can't rate sleep quality as I didn't stay there.

Having stayed in several crappy places in australia/asia,and many that were only mediocre...
I very much appreciated the quality, cleanliness, friendlyness and overall experience at the riad.... It is a very welcoming retreat to go back to after a busy day dodging between the plethora of the traders in the souks (which are literally on your doorstep, via a quick left or right out of the quiet and tranquil alleyway that the riad is situated upon)
The owners were very welcoming and friendly, and nothing was too much trouble in relation to organising things for our time away, everything from personal requests, food, drink, taxis etc etc. Thier local knowledge of sites, restaurants, places to shop and everything in general was extensive. In addition to knowledge of customs and language - which is ever so important as Marrakech can be a daunting place for touristy types, and is more for travellers.
As mentioned above in regards to the owners, this allows for a happy medium for those who arent too sure about jumping in the deep end and exploring
The riad itself is wonderfully furnished, very clean, and bordering on palatial!
As for the staff; Kamal the riad manager is a local man who has grew up in the surrounding area of the riad, and is a good man to go to for advice for etiquette and barting, and general social advice for your time in Marrakech, he knows his stuff, and helps to aid in the deliverence of solid customer service within the riad. (He got me a good deal on a lantern too!)
As for the other staff - all of the staff operating within the riad (other than Kamal) are female; and are true gems... nothing was too much trouble, and they were exceptionally accomodating to all members of the group (we hired the whole riad). As someone recently told me, the key to a good business, is finding good employees, and keeping them... I believe the owners have very much done so with these ladies.

I would recommed this as very suitable accommodation to those who dont mind spending out a little bit more for somewhere which is well worth it.

If you want to sample real Marrakech, this is the perfect place to be in the heart of the Medina, and literally a few minutes walk from 'the big square'.

We hired Riad Elizabeth so we could have full use of the venue for our Wedding, Elizabeth and John were a god send before, during and after the wedding helping to finalise things that we weren't able to do easily from the UK. The staff are excellent, very friendly and always willing to help no matter what the query. Each room has its own style - all are spacious & comfortable - you can't help but relax within the Riad, then you walk around the corner and you are in the middle of souks and the square! Amazing venue, fantastic people and great location - well worth a stay! Highly recommended for everyone.

We stayed at Riad Elizabeth for four days, we hired the entire Riad for our daughter's wedding. John & Elizabeth calmed our fears and arranged a wonderful wedding, including a restaurant around the corner for a family meal and a trip out to the Atlas. We could not have been in better hands.

The accommodation is spacious and comfortable and the staff helpful and friendly, nothing is too much effort. If you want a home from home in Marrakech, near the souk and the buzz of Jemaa el-Fna, this is teh place to be.
